Hi all,
When I acquired my VX HPE last spring one of the faults it came with was an unusual one. The brake pedal would stay down and the brakes would stay on after you took your foot off it. The only way you could release the brakes was to hook your toes under the pedal and lift it up. It would come up very easily with virtually no resistance. I've never experienced this before, not with any car I've ever owned. I mentioned it to my trusty MOT man and he said, almost before I'd finished speaking, "master cylinder". 100% certain. So I ordered one from Betaboyz and I fitted it. I also replaced a slightly rusty brake pipe while I was at it and I fitted some brand new braided hoses all round. Brand new fluid in the system, bled through perfectly. Cured? Nope. I took it out a few days ago for a blast round the local 'tax & MOT test free'
back roads to check and it still does it! Nothing like as often though because when I first drove it home from buying it the pedal would stay down virtually every time. By the time I'd got it home (300 miles) it was only doing it 50% of the time. Now it's maybe only 10% of the time but in all of my 30 mile trip the other day it didn't improve- it kept on doing it.
I'm going to get into that most undignified of positions later today- the one where you get your head under the dashboard, ar$e on the seat and feet on the headlining, to see if there is a mechanical reason for it. Any other suggestions, my learned friends?
Andrew.
