Hi All,

Help please on which one is correct!

The oil meter display on the dash say that the car is low on oil. (See photo) That is if I am reading it correctly. This level indicator stay at this point irrespective if the engine is just idling or at full pace.
On the dipstick the oil level is touching the upper mark on both the cold and hot measuring marks.
If I read it via the clever in dash meter (the one that you pump up to get a reading) it also indicate that the oil level is correct!

Inputs please.

Gerhard

Check the sender wire has not become disconnected, then earth the sender wire
and check if gauge goes to full reading, if it does then sender is faulty.

Gerhard this is oil pressure sender, not oil level!
at high revs stay in the same zone?
Maybe you need a new sender

It's an easy job to replace.

As said, the gauge is for oil pressure, I expect a faulty sender unit, mine was exactly the same when I bought the car, replaced the unit and it showed I had a healthy oil pressure, and engine. Smiley
I believe it to be a lot easier to replace on the carb models as you can get to it and see it pretty well. I've got an IE and ended up having to take the inlet manifold off to replace mine Sad

Yes mine is broken too. Not so sure about 'easy'. I've been putting off the job for a while, is it best attacked from above or below? I was thinking that I might have to take out the (larger old style) radiator to get at it?

Hi Neil,
You is a carbt'd model?
No radiator to take out!! Wink
Only take a key like this

as short as you can, pull off the faston from the sender, set the key for a 19mm.
You have to stay at right of the car, key under the sender (take care of alternator wires), then unscrew the sender (anticlockwise);
from fender to the radiator.
If it's hard to remove, you can leave the key inserted and go to the left of the car and unscrew from it

May the Force be with you  Wink

My s2 spider starts off in black but on heating up goes into red irrespective of revs-has been this way since 1994 so have always assumed sender faulty!

Where can you get a new sender?

Thanks.  Colin.
