I am changing the carb on my 79 Spider Zagato 2000 to a Weber 34 DAT. Apparently that means I also have to change the intake manifold.
The thick green parts catalog I have is unclear on which type is in the car and what the new one should be. Do I need a very specific manifold for the engine type 828 BS 1? Or are the manifolds the same across several engine types?

Help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,
The 34 DAT(R) is the standard carb for the 2000 engine. An intake manifold
would be fairly easy to find if yours is not standard.

Perhaps you have something else fitted right now?

If you do need to replace the inlet manifold I have a spare one you are welcome to have for postage costs.

My car is a USA import and it has all the EGR stuff on there. So it has a specific carb on there. And the engine bay is very crowded with all kinds of pipes and hoses. My plan is to go to the regular 2000 spec therefore I want to replace the carb and go from there. I was told that the US type carb (Weber 32/30 DHTA) has a RESTRICTED intake manifold and therefore it should be replaced when changing to a 34 DAT. I cannot find any info on that and I have not removed the carb or manifold yet.

What is the compression ratio on a US spec twin cam? I have a vague feeling from 124 Spider days of hat it was lower than Euro spec and part of the reason I swapped that for an Argenta block.

I think you may be correct. I remember reading somewhere the US spec cars were lower, so jetting the Weber would be possibly different. Certainly the US cars were down on EU power values, which therefore makes sense to transplant a EU lower end.
