Whatever happened to KYF224X?

A long time ago I was the owner of a 1981 2L Coupe, KYF224X, that I did much work on including welding and mechanical work including converting from auto to manual and a colour change respray.

I sold it at auction in 2017 and it was next seen after being restored again by Evoke Classics. I was impressed with the job they did as evidenced by the video linked below.

They sold it for a reasonably improved price and I was glad to see that someone evidently loved it.

I was idling away the day and came across a story where someone had rebought a classic that they had previously sold and wondered what had happened to KYF224X. Maybe I could do the same and buy it back, I thought.

So I searched and came across the sad picture of the car in the Copart advert where clearly there had been a small fire, presumably around the fuel system or carbs. The fire must have been localised since tyres etc appear to be all right.

Did someone buy it and rebuild it or did they strip it for parts? If anyone knows I'd be interested to hear.

Hi Doug,
This car was discussed somewhere recently. Unfortunately a, perhaps over-zealous
assessor, classified it Cat B which means it can't be put back on the road.

I questioned whether an insurance category can be changed but found little info.

Sadly it will probably not survive.

Thanks very much for your comments. You are of course perfectly correct. I had not understood the implication of the category.

That is so sad. Never heading down the road again.
