Hello everyone,
Our mechanical fuel pump broke down, so we are looking at a replacement fuel pump. We bought the Huco 133010 fuel pump (to go into the engine bay). We dont really know where to place it, does anyone have suggestions on the placement for a pump like that?

Maybe a silly question, but why not just replace the mechanical pump with the same as they are easily available?
This will save you a lot of work.

Hello Peter,
I already bought a mechanical fuel pump to replace the previous one, however that one also broke down (the axle running through the pump broke), so we dont really have good experiences with them, thats why we wanted to go for a electric fuel pump. It also seemed like the better choice when reading through previous posts on this forum about electric fuel pumps.

Hi Gerke,
I've had a Huco 'pull' pump in my Spider for around 15 years and provided it gets a full 12v to work with it's been very reliable. I believe they will work in pretty much any orientation, although when I spoke to an English supplier recently he expressed a preference for horizontal mounting. To be honest, I don't think it really matters. I mounted mine at the front right of the engine bay, underneath the headlights. On my car the hard fuel lines terminate reasonably close so I just fitted a clear filter inline before the pump, then ran the other line to the carb inlet. If you have a VX this may be different on your car.

Hi Gerke
Remember to add in a crash sensor/solenoid arrangement to cutoff in case of accident.

When I had mine it lived on top of the inner wing behind the right hand headlight - plenty of space there. But do as Peter suggests and fit an inertia switch somewhere in the power supply - you can get second hand ones from breakers easy enough.

Thanks alot for all the responses,
I've fitted the fuel pump, now i only need to do the crash sensor/solenoid arrangement.

Hi Gerke,
There has been some discussion on how to mount the Huco pump, however mine was supplied by Fast Road Cars, and there was a hand written note from Anthony attached that said " fit in engine bay upright, unions at top".
On that basis, I recommend that you flip it.

Hi Nigel
Where he has it it will not flip, personally I would fit to inner wing, not the front crossmember in case of frontal shunt even with crash sensor fitted.

You're right Peter!
Mounting on the inner wing should, with a stiff right-angled bracket, stop any potential vibration.
The inertia switch is also mounted vertically, rubber end at top, and can be mounted on the same right-angled bracket, making for a neat install.

Hello,
Could you share a picture of how the electric fuel pump is mounted in the engine bay?

Hi Gerke, In my case, I fitted it on the back of the repositioned steering reservoir bracket along with the inertia switch and relay. I also moved the ign coil to create some space.
Hope this helps Nigel

Hello Nigel,
A late response but thanks for posting the photos. I haven't gotten any further with it yet, but sometimes other things take priority. But to be continued.
