Hello,

We have refurbished all parts of the braking system, and when the car is jacked up, both rear wheels are running free after applying the brakes for a few times.
But after driving for around 10km, the rear wheels and brakes are getting very hot, and the rear brakes are not running free anymore and there is some slight pressure on the brake discs. After we let it cool down the brakes are working normally again.

Does anyone know what the cause may be and how to fix it?

Hi

I guess it could be either the rear brake balancer connected wrongly or faulty, the master cylinder possibly (unlikely) or some sort of compression in the flexible hoses?

Hello Peter,

Could you tell me how to properly connect the brake balancer? I'm pretty sure thats what causing the issue now.

There may be an issue with the length of the pushrod in the servo if it's not the balance compensatory. If the rod is slightly too long it can cause slight binding that gets worse with heat. No experience of this on a Beta but I did have on a 124 Spider. Replace the master cylinder securing nuts for Nylon ones and back them off a thread or two. Exercise caution when driving until you're comfortable the brakes are okay! If that cures it then the rod can be shortened.

Wouldn't that mean that the front brakes should get hot too if that was the issue?

Given one the front circuits and rear ones come off the same port of the master cylinder it is less likely to do with that.

I would be tempted to disconnect the bar on the rear brake compensator and leave it in the open position to confirm it is to do with that.

From memory the adjustment for the bar is in the Haynes manual, but do not have one with me here in France.

Probably. But if the compensator isn't the culprit then this might be another possibility. I assume that the handbrake mechanisms in the callipers aren't seized slightly on?
