Hi. When refurbishing a hood frame for a Spyder, has anyone replaced the torsion springs on the latches which clip to the rollover section of the roof? There are two springs to each latch. The springs on the latches I have are rusted and the legs have disappeared from them and therefore no torsion. It looks like I would need to grind the end of the pins to get them out and make new pins with new springs fitted if I can find the right size springs.
Also is there any way of avoiding the ends of the rivets falling into the bow when you drill the rivets to remove the straps to then have the bow painted. Cheers C

Hi Clifford
If you post a photo I may have some spare ones which will save you the effort?

That would be brilliant Peter. Let me figure out how to get some photos up and will do that. Cheers!

Hi Clifford
I have 2 of these which are tatty, but work with good springs. They need a clean and some paint, but will be fine.
These are for the targa to top of the windscreen, not to the roll over hoop btw.

Hi Clifford
The Spyder hood clips have a stepped down tongue which is different to the Targa ones. I spent an age getting and prepping a good pair of these including leather repair kit for the leather surfacing and JB Weld to fix cracking pads and of course sand blasting and painting. I literally cannot find my left over bits currently or I would have replied. If I find spare bits to the Hood Frame I will let you know.

Hi Eric
Good point, the latches which Clifford has shown are the front Targa ones, 2 of which I am sending him. As you say the rear hood ones are different as are the rear targa ones.
I do have some spare ones of these others in case required....

Thank you for your input Eric. I would be surprised if you hadn't addressed some of these issues in your activities at some point. Have you ever replaced the torsion springs on the latches? Alternatively do they stand a chance of surviving sand blasting? I hope good progress is still being made on the Spyder C

Hi Clifford
I just checked on my spare rear hood latches and they do not have any springs on them. These are from a pre facelift, so maybe the later cars had modified latches?

Hi Clifford
Yes they survived sand blasting OK. I had to Tank tape mask the leather of course. I remember pushing the roll pins out of some to make up a best set so maybe that will help you to use what Peter can supply.

Thank you for that information Eric. Always useful to have eyes wide open. The leather is shot on the frame I have and so I am going to have a go at making some new leather "pulls" from some bridle leather I have ordered from "fleabay"... Been watching too many episodes of "The Repair Shop" 😊
