Just wondering if this phenomenon is a well-known "thing" or not:  When negotiating roundabouts or tight turns etc. the steering column on my Spyder makes an annoying squeaking, squealing sound - presumably as some plastic or rubber trim is contacting or rubbing aginst something. Problem is, it is nigh on impossible to investigate whilst you are driving.  It seems to be worse when the car is hot after driving for a while.
Anyone else have this issue?  Huh?

Hi

Are you sure it is the column and not coming from the wheels?

I've had a similar thing on a delta, where the plastic couling if not screwed in place correctly ends up fouling the back of the steering wheel on turns making some odd noises when you least expect it ...

I do not have a solution, but the thread title made me smile. On the Montes we get Clown car horn sounding where a contact in the column switches loosens. When driving along the horn sounds on random turns which gets some very odd looks frankly.

Thanks for the replies chaps - it is definitely the column, not the wheels. I think "Lanciamad" is right - it sounds very much like the cowling squealing, due to being loose or incorrectly attached.  I'll check the fixings.  Smiley
