I think the above maybe a 'link' or some such witchcraft...

Seriously though, the car looks 'ok'... ish and would be a fantastic answer to anyone saying they all rust away/break etc etc yawn.

I for one would be happy to chip in, help restore, donate parts and store if necessary. It would be a crying shame to loose ANOTHER Beta, especially one with this story.

Any idea's chaps?

Tim.

I think someone did launch an appeal for what you're suggesting. But I agree, it needs saving and irronically the body shell will probably be in far better condition than any UK-stored car. It would be a very worthwhile basis for a restoration/rebuild.

I was going to post an article regarding this find earlier on, as I knew there'd be interest on the Forum.
It actually made me watch the original program on youtube ( beit through fingers ..as I never like the way cars get treated on those Top Gear specials for viewership. )

anyway despite all that, this is a model with a story that will only become more interesting as time goes by..
Personally, I would love to see that beta saved ( it deserves to be ) and a partial restoration carried out.

If it was available for $950, to my mind that is very reasonable, obviously shipping back to the UK would be horrific cost wise?

A restoration/re-commissioning would be 'do-able' as bullet holes etc lend an interesting patina...??!!! (the lite bite cafe would have to stay)

As I have just dragged my Turin shroud Coupe out of a 21 year storage the 'lite bite' Beta looks in considerably better shape!

The obvious answer (if there is one?) is Felix Furtak at the Lancia wellness centre in Cape Town, does anyone know him? or is he present on the LMC forum which I fail miserably to remember to look at Roll Eyes

I don't think it matters where it gets saved as long as it does get saved!

Tim

Felix isn't a LMC member and I've never seen him on any of the Facebook pages either.

Isn't this car an automatic? If so another thing stacked against it (though I loved the one test drive I had in an auto Coupe....)

Yes, auto HPE's were available, this being between 1979 and 1982 when dealer J D Ross closed down.

I don't recall any autos in South Africa in 84/85. T.A.K Motor Co [Jhb] probably didn't want the
potential issues with them.

1976 1.6 Coupe Lancia Blu [PFG 76R] [probably deceased]
oh,and an Uno Turbo 1997 also in SA [stolen, never recovered]

interesting, I know of an Automatic coupe here in Denmark, but have never come across an HPE using an automatic transmission, they must be rare.

Thanks Nigel,
