The gasket between my exhaust manifold and downpipe recently blew. The old downpipe was rusty and had no flexi, and as I had two spare but differing pipes it seemed a good time to change it. I had a flexi welded into the ‘straight’ one. I thought the ‘offset’ ones were only fitted to very early cars and even my pre-facelift 1300 had a ‘straight’ one as I remember fixing a dropped manifold stud back in the day.

Anyway, I climb under the 1300 and the downpipe is offset! The plot thickens though, because it can’t be the original, as someone has had to weld an extra 10mm on the end to get it to reach the standard fit exhaust. Lesson for me – check twice fit once!

Are the pipes are interchangeable? The clamp on the engine is offset, but looks like it might be capable of adjustment?
