Twin DCOE 45 - please help!!

Hey folks really appreciate some advice.

I have twin side draft Weber’s on 1800 beta coupe.

Obviously there’s minimal room for radiator as it hits the horns on carbies.

Does anyone know of any solutions to this?

Things I have pondered about changing -

1) Slim, wide new radiator to fit in the gap at front of car (behind grill)
2) carby box with a duct that carries air to them.

3) slim air filters on the carbies

Surely one of you enthusiasts has had the same issue?

Pretty sure it’s not great sucking in hot air either..??

I personally will be running into the very same issue in a month or so..
From my understanding most people mounted the radiator further forward, all you should need to do is fabricate some new brackets and get some longer hoses.

be interested in any other solutions though.

Hi when I ran a twin 45 engine I used the IE Radiator set as far forward as possible and built a curved air deflector fitted to the top of the radiator to deflect hot air below the carb air intakes. I used 90 degree long trumpets to get the air pick up above the radiator and left the top baffle plate off the radiator shroud to get cold air coming in. Then I used filter socks. Now I would build a heat insulated air box and use an insulated pipe to a cone filter down low picking up cool air.

My Guy Croft engineered 2Ltr made 185BHP wih 165ft lbs of torque and was great fun.

Thanks.. I was thinking a box over them with duct from front..

The beta radiator will not fit in that front gap. A Subaru one will be low profile and wider but is $450 Au$

Bloody pricey!!

I’ll be updating how I go also., anyone else have suggestions, specifically about which radiator to use? Please bear in mind an original Lancia radiator that fits is going to be way too expensive here in Australia!!

The Monte Hospital sell a self-contained airbox for DCOE carbs, with the air intake routed somewhere out of the hot air off the radiator (favourite would probably be low down in front of LH wheel arch). They supply a fully built item and a cheaper self-assembly kit. I've got one ready to fit to my twin DCOE 45s when I finally get round to finishing the engine. An engine breathing hot air off the radiator is a very bad idea. Here's the link:

A Beta carb model radiator may not fit, but as Eric points out above, the late injection version is slimmer.

Try Reaching out to Ian O'Hara in Australia he did this fairly recently and found a radiator solution. His photos are digital and end to show up if you Google Lancia Beta Engine Bay.
