I’m looking to paint my Beta Saloon soonish but I’ve run into a little hitch with this paint code.
I’ve only enquired with one paint shop so far and they can’t make any sense of the label in the boot. They are expecting a code something like 3 numbers and maybe a letter.

I really want to make sure it’s painted the original colour, so would appreciate if can anyone shed some light on this paint label or is this all you get.

Ta Ian

Some paint suppliers can scan the paint assuming it's original and get the exact colour from that. There will have been quite a few lancia blues over the years would need to know the build date to have best guess as to the code.

I thought this might be a bit tricky. The car looks to have been painted before, I think.
How do I find the build date?

I stumbled across this. Does it have any true worth?

I can look it up for some cars from the chassis number but records are missing pre 78 I think. It may be that the blue didn't change over a period is it a series two and is it pre or post facelift (long or short roof gutter easiest way to tell)

Built July 1978, I'll have a look at colours tonight but likely to be as per the link you added above

Blu lancia series 2 pre facelift is code 121 from 79 seems to be 105 later cars 438
I found another lancia blu on a ICI autocolor card which has no number just a code GA21

Sometimes the same colour code can have more than one variation.

I'm curious as the paintwork in your photo of the code doesn't look like lancia blu?

Is this a better representation of the colour. It’s filthy dirty I’m afraid but it has the light on it.

Most likely 121 I think although all lancia blues are similar. I prefer the one they used on the 60s cars really dark almost black.

I went to the paint shop yesterday and compared the paint chips to the petrol cap. Clearly the car has been painted almost everywhere. As I intend to paint door shuts, most of the engine bay inc. inner wing turrets etc, back of the bonnet and of corse the exterior, then I’m going with the standard shade of 105 Lancia bleu.

As you rightly say rossocorsa, it’s almost black and a very nice colour.  I think it will look lovely when painted ‘clear over base’. And as far as I can make out, as close to original as can be proved.

Best get cracking.

Hi rossocorsa,
My recently acquired 84 HPE has no paint code sticker and I am hoping your extensive
records can help me with a colour code [and a build date?]
Chassis is ZLA828BF000949717
It was delivered to the first owner in Australia 31/08/84

Best regards
Nigel

Alan may correct me, but I don't think the build records even quote the colour, let alone the paint code. As yours is a very late car if you pay for a Fiat heritage certificate that might give you the original colour.

Looks like November 83, there's only month and year of build, at least that I have, if you are feeling flush I'd be interested to see what Fiat can supply via the heritage route but I suspect that the records are missing. Is it silver? It'll be
620 I think

yes Alan, it's Silver! I should have said that in the first place!

I filled in the form on the FCA web site but haven't heard back at all. I'm actually not sure how it works
as there was no request for payment at the time.

Thanks for the info, much appreciated.

Regards
Nigel

I think they find out what they know then decide what the charge will be if you want a certificate. If you go through the process it will be interesting to know what you find. As my own car is very non-original and in a permanently dismantled state I've not bothered to check myself.

Alan, i've had an email from Centro Archivio Storico and they can only provide build date and model.
A certificate would cost E70.00, or via email E30.00.

I think i'll leave it for now!

As I suspected really, it's sad that they kept no records and even sadder that they charge simply to give you a build date. Now we need someone who has a pre 78 car to try and see if they at least have build dates for those or not as I have nothing pre 78 and I'm not supposed to have what I already have either!

Alan, just this past weekend I noticed an aluminium stamped plate pop-rivited to
the front upper frame rail by the Australians [I presume]which
clearly says BUILT DEC 1983 !

So the FCA heritage would have told me nothing I didn't know already!

Best wishes, Nige
