Hello!
Does anyone have a used windscreen that would fit Lancia beta 1979 ?
I have found them online most in the US but they cost an absolute bomb....

Try Pilkington classic - they have patterns for Beta screens though note that the bonded screen and the rubber seal screen are slightly different.

Hi Orbital, can you let us know what they say please as I was going to take my 81 Coupe for its mot next week and I’ve found my screen has large crack on the passenger side. Is yours rubber seal or bonded?

A clear screen is £275.11 plus vat and the lead time is 6 to 8 weeks hope this helps

After speaking to Pilkington, this was the quote they provided with other options available as you can see. Does anyone know where I can get a Windscreen seal from ?

Hi
If you have a bonded screen, then you do not need a seal, the seal is the bonding. Only the later cars had the removable seals.

Mine isn’t a bonded it actually has a seal on but its nackerd and needs a new one ready for when I get a replacement windscreen. Just can’t seem to source one any ideas?

Hi
Difficult to tell from the photo, but if it is a replaceable seal as per the later cars, then be very careful on the screen you order. The reusable seal version of the screen is a different size to the bonded one and they are not interchangeable.

Something to be aware of is that the early bonded in windscreens had a system where there was a looped heating element that cured the bonding material. It would be very easy to mistake that for a removable seal.
How about cutting through the seal remains to see if there is actually a heating element in it?

Hi, i have seals from VX / IE coupes which weren't bonded. Yours looks like the remains of a bonded.

interesting ! Its so bad its kinda hard to tell!
I did cut open and no wire running through it...
My windscreen frame needs complete reconstruction which will most likely lead to it not fitting 100% the same as the original as the edges are so badly rotten. I was thinking putting new metal in re-weld it clean it all up, and then put a base layer of black window sealant and then lay the screen and then run the sealant along the edges and around, Then install the black plastic trim that runs around the windscreen.
Is that a terrible idea or ?

I'd need to research this to be certain but I think only think! That all the actual apertures are the same dimensions so there would be no reason why you couldn't install a late style screen with rubber, I'd need to research a bit more though as it would be expensive to buy the bits then find they don't fit. https://www.elvezio.com/en/lancia/lancia-beta-coupe/rubber-sections-lancia-beta-coupe.html

Hi
If yours is a 79 car, then I really would look to let in new metal and restore to original, then use an original bonded screen and get a specialist screen fitter who has all the tools and bonding materials to the job properly, e.g. They put a coating of special paint on the glass to allow it to bond correctly.
I guess you could go for the removable seal version, but the seals are expensive and there will likely be more difficult to source the screen as it was only used for a few years.
Not sure if you saw the PM I sent you re a second hand screen, but I did not get a reply.

I think we've been through all this before but the actual issue of bonded vs rubber is very vague I think I possibly need to dig through the microfiche at some time to try and find some answers! From what I recall most late hpe were still bonded makes me surprised that the screen dimensions would differ as this would be very confusing in production. I also note that the windscreen quote above doesn't seem to differentiate ( ) I think what is definitely known is that some replacement screens don't fit very well
