Hi all. Just trying to refit the hood on my 81 Spyder. It's a while since I removed it, and so far, everything seems to have gone back ok. Apart from: There are two straps that connect to a small sub-frame, that gets pulled into position when the hood is up. On mine, these straps are connected to the top section of the hood, and are riveted to this sub-frame. They are about 30cm long, have 2 holes towards the bottom (like a belt) then not connected to anything else. They're not long enough to reach the 'parcel shelf' region. I'm fairly sure that there was another part of this strap, that was a bit like a belt buckle, and came from the lower part of the hood frame where it meets the car. I don't have this other part for either side, and I can't see where or how such a piece would connect. Does anyone have a picture or information on how these straps attach?
Many thanks. Justin.

You are correct, there should be straps attached to the bottom and buckles to attach to the top strap.
Do not have a complete one to photo at present, hopefully someone else will oblige...

Are these any help. As this was fitted nearly 25 years ago, and I'm 85, can't remember how I did it ! ! !

Yes - that's very helpful. Thanks for taking those pics. I found one of the buckle ends in the glove box, but it looks to be much shorter than the ones in the pictures. Thanks again. Justin.

Taken the hood back off tonight, to try and see where the lower belts would have been fixed. Couldn't see any trace of whereand how they were fixed, so I guess they were probably sewn in when the hood was made. Retro-fitting to original looks like it would be fairly difficult, so I'm going to have to come up with another solution. Bummer.

The buckles were pop riveted to the frame at the base from memory.

I'm sure Eric is correct. From an even worse memory, I think I used small bolts and nuts in original holes.

Not sure whether I should have added this to this old thread or started a new one but here goes. Does anyone have any sources for these webbing straps? I am not sure whether this is special webbing because of the nature of what job it is doing or any old webbing will do? Also I have seen cars with buckles of some description and one with velcro fastening for the adjusting. Does anyone know what the original straps were like please? Thanks C

Hi Clifford
Sorry no photos, but from memory they were approx 1” black webbing with metal buckles, bit like small belt buckles which did rust as just plated items.
I replaced with nylon locking buckles.
As to the webbing it should have been sewn into the hood, or at least mine was on the replacement hood. There is nothing special about it, just ordinary man made webbing which is widely available.
