I need some help. I got the head back and fitted it to the block. With cylinder 1 and 4 on tdc and the cam pulleys on there marks( as in pic below).  When I turn the motor( by hand) it gets about 3/4 way before touching a valve. Any ideas?

Is it definitely a valve that's making contact? Could it be that the auxiliary shaft isn't lined up and that is fouling the crank or what ever it hits when not aligned properly?

Thanks Neil-ya. Auxiliary shaft was way out. Also the yellow plastic cam belt cover had no markings on it. I had a spare which had the three markings on it. So lined it all up and it all good.

Make sure the mark at the auxiliary pulley is lined with tensioner spring bolt.

The markings on the cam cover are mainly there for ignition timing, they are omitted on cars with electronic ignition ( facelift onwards) as the procedure for setting ignition timing is different
