Hi lads,

Would like your thoughts on the above, I'm going to buy a Delta for work, which I will cover about 60k miles over the next four years and the boot will be full with tools.  Probably equivalent of carrying two passengers.  Do I buy the petrol or diesel?  Had a back to back test run on both cars, the diesel impressed, but the petrol also impressed.

Diesel
Will do the job admirably, but I'm concerned about future diesel costs...taxation, and at the pumps.

Petrol
I like petrol engines, and this is a gem. Only concern is that there was a definite lack of power when rolling round a corner in second gear, then picking up the gas.  Is this something that could be ECU tuned?  Also being a newish engine...will it last the test of time?  I did like this engine, drove like an electric motor, apart from the low speed pick up.

Any thoughts?

John.

2.0 multijet  just enough power for most situations, I suspect the 1.6 will be a bit slow in everyday use don't know or have experience of the petrols. You could look on the fiat forum bravo section basically the same car, doesn't compare with older lancias definitely a cheap car underneath made posh.

Out of the two that you listed I suspect the petrol would be better, the delta is a nice car for the prices around now and a real rarity on the road. Good points are distinctive looks ( love 'em or hate 'em), relatively quiet, lots of interior space, good performance and economy, bad points jittery ride, poor quality plastics in lower interior mouldings, back seat doesn't fold flat, boot is deep but not very long, no dab on radio and no a2dp, unexceptional handling (the most significant when it is supposed to be a lancia!), no washer bottle level warning light, seat backs too flat on side bolsters, rearward visibility bad oh and according to the wife dreadful vanity mirrors!
