Hi all My Lancia Beta Coupe has always been hard work getting into 5th gear (and a little with reverse, although not as bad), yet smooth as anything going up from 1st-4th. The cold weather could be the reason it has been worse than normal... that or it's on its way out (which I'm hoping isn't the case as it was changed only a couple of years ago by the previous owner). I was just wondering if this is a common problem with the car, or if I've got a bit more work on my hands Cheers!

It's not uncommon for the 5th / reverse or 1st / 2nd plane to be a little stubborn..
The likelihood is that the gear linkage needs adjustment or if it's worn replacement. Neither of which is too difficult or expensive thankfully.

I have found also some difficulties in selecting 5th and R gears. My transmission is filled with fresh synth gear oil. Does anyone have an idea how to adust the linkage properly?

I have had this problem on a coupe ie, suspect the engine mountings ,in the short term I overcame the problem by adjusting the linkage as about, but the real solution I reckon is replacement of the engine mounts

Thanks for the suggestion, however in my case the engine mounts are almost new, so first I am gonna try adjustment
