I've found a new carpet for my spyder (in brown) for €215 which doesn't seem unreasonable when compared to the price of a set of mats. Anyway, it comes in sixteen seperate pieces I presume for packaging and shipping, but what then? Do you stitch/duct tape it together or what? Has anyone any experience with these products or should I try to find a complete carpet which hasn't faded to several shades of yellow and gold and has a bood driver's heel pad?(which I know isn't going to happen)

Hi
Now that is interesting, a few questions rather than answers I am afraid.
1) Is there more than one set available?
2) When you say complete set, does that include underlay and boot carpets
3) Can you get pictures
4) Is this for Series 1/2 pre f/l or f/l onwards (never seen a brown f/l interior, hence question)
If as you suggest it is in cut up pieces, I would not touch, as it makes no sense for either shipping or selling. I wonder if it is as per 2) and includes all the different carpets I the set?

The set I looked at is for a pre-facelift car. The early spyders were treated to a brown dash, tan vinyl seats and brown and tan door cards and rear panels. My carpet was a mid-brown colour which may have been darker thirty four years ago and it doesn't include boot carpet or underlay. I can't post a link for the life in me, but the item number is 320911108648 and if you insert it in the search box on e-bay, you can see the carpet and click on "see other items" and you can view all their stock. They do have a few different colours available including black and burgandy, but as I was looking for brown, I didn't look too closely at the other options.

Aftermarket carpets are often 'bits and pieces' because they don't have the facilities to mould the carpet to the shape of the floor. Slightly better quality would have stitched or piped edging.

Peter
I have had no contact at all with them. Much too obvious a solution for me to have considered it I prefer to hear from people without an agenda as the answers are usually honest and unbiased. That said, I'll ask and see what kind of reply I get and take it from there.

When my guy reupholstered the seats etc, I also asked what he could do with the carpet replacement as it was worn and faded as per normal. Not sure if this will work well, but he pretty much threw this in as part of the deal, by sticking a fairly thin carpet onto the old carpet. Keeps the profile etc, no idea yet, as have not refitted, if it will work well, but figure nothing lost and if it does work, will be a bonus.

The fumes, Man. Now, THAT'LL be a trip. Make sure he uses Evostik! There's a sound, simple logic in what he's doing and it's probably the only way to go. I've asked for details from the afore-mentioned carpet seller so I'll post his reply when it arrives.

The photo actually shows the hel pad on the correct side but having said that, my original carpet has the heel pads on both sides. Anyway, all will be revealed when I get my reply!

the hel pad on the correct side It is really relative Firstly, let me apologise for my spelling mistake and I'm talking R.H.D. Secondly, still no answer from the supplier which makes me wary of buying from them. It's just a personal approach to buying and selling, but the absence of a reply after a few days doesn't inspire confidence in the event a problem with the transaction or the actual goods were to arise.

Just to update this. I never received a reply from the advertiser so they can keep it as far as I'm concerned. At maybe €100, I'd chance it, but throwing €215 at it is too much of a gamble for me. Better spent getting my front seats reupholstered.
