the auto choke is sticking on on my 79 1600 beta. ive not had much to do with these before so before i rip it to bits i thought id ask if any1 has had bother. what i did notice is that the water in my coolant system was very cruddy so ive had it running with hose pipe in till it ran clear. im now concerned that the crud could of caused problems in the choke mechanism  the car has just been put back on the road after been stood. is there a common problem? also is there a manual choke conversion thats any good? any advice greatly received.

Open up the auto choke on the carb an clear out the accumulated crud, then see how she goes.

The crud clogs the spring inside and causes these type of issues.

Just be careful when you undo the three screw/bolts for the auto choke - take note of what goes where before it springs apart !

It is actually quite straight forward, but if things spring out when your not expecting it you may get confused, so just take it nice and slowly and if you have a camera on your phone - have that handy just for reference!

there was nothing to see wrong or siezed, but when i looked down the carb n opened the throttle there was no squirt from the accelerator jet so i took the jets out to clean and check  1 of the 2 piece jets was apart, put it 2gether put back in now i can hear the jet squirting when throttle is pressed, the high reving n flat spot that i blamed on the auto choke seems to be ok, although i didnt want to rev it to much as the kids are in bed . might get a chance to give it a blast in the nxt few days Smiley

Worth replacing the accelerator pump diaphragm as well. This perishes and becomes ineffective. It's at the back of the carb held in by some brass screws.
