Excellent stuff, Matt. We're all very appreciative out here in DamperLessLand...  Grin

Seriously, the forum owes you a debt of thanks for your sterling work. Much appreciated.

Good news folks - the cam belt dampers are being delivered to me today, but as I am 80 miles away at work no-one will be there to sign for them.  So I'll re-arrange delivery to my wifes work tomorrow.

Once they have arrived and I've checked the numbers and that its the right part - I'll be contacting folks for payment and shipping addresses.

Those that have already paid I will be contacting you for addresses if I don't already have it to hand.

it is with great disappointment that I have to write this post but unfortunately a necessity.

Firstly to those of you who have paid for their dampers I wish to express my thanks and appreciation to you.

Currently there are a higher than expected number of people who seem to have not responded at all to any of my advisories or "heads ups" posts on this thread, contacts via Personal Messages and direct emails.

I have spent a considerable amount of time calculating postage costs for numerous forum members who registered their interest in the group buy of the engine dampers and making it easy for them to benefit from such a venture, but sadly five members have not made any payment so far and I currently find myself over £611 out of pocket.

If the remaining five members have not paid for their (7 sets of) dampers by end of day Friday 31st August I will be selling the dampers elsewhere to recoup my money.

Plain and simple.

Hi Matt

Sorry to hear this, cannot take any more at this time, but hope you get a good result to your appeal, either new buyers or original members, as only makes future group buys more difficult.

Matt

As you know I didn't go for this as I am pretty much skint at the moment, however if you are stuck with some I will gladly relieve you of one of each as I will need some if I ever get the car back together.

I will post up how many sets are available on Saturday morning, then it's a first come first serve on via the forum and also will be sold via eBay for a slightly higher price to cover eBay fees & PayPal fees.

I'm not asking folks to buy things they do not need or purchase just for the sake of it.

Matt

I am shocked by the behaviour of my fellow Beta owners on this considering the time trouble and effort you have gone to in order to help fellow owners this is just not acceptable. I know personal circumstances change and money is tight but basic decent behaviour would be to honour your commitments or in the case of genuine difficulty explain the situation.

As I already have and have paid for 2 sets for my 1 car I cannot pick up the extras unfortunately.

These parts were almost impossible to find in working order before you stepped up here so the people concerned will deserve the broken exhausts and shockingly random gear changes that lie ahead.

All the best with the move.

Just another thank you for doing this Matt. Like Simon I'm appalled at the prospect of you being out of pocket for devoting your time and money to this project. I'm sure that all the dampers will find a home eventually but that's not the point. It doesn't bode well for future group buys which will now have to be cash in advance!

Ditto Eric and Neil's views, always felt that commitments should be followed through. I for one would favour pre payment on any of these group deals, as the organiser then knows for real how many are and those not.

Matt, given the scarcity of the parts, I hope you are able to move them quickly especially as you are in the middle of a move.

All the best and thanks for organising it again.

Sadly after this, I suspect that's exactly what any of us will have to ask for if we look at group buys in future.

Yes it is sad if some are not prepared to follow through, but is it so unreasonable to ask for the money up front, after all no profit is being taken, so why should any extra risk be put on the organiser. Makes full sense to me.

What is the price for the set? It has changed a couple of times since the first anouncement. If any left maybe I will be interested for the future needs, as the pair in my beta is still in good condition.

Dear Matt, I am sorry to hear about the damper hassle etc, especially after all the hard work you have put in. I only did not order a set myself at the time because I was dealing with other "issues" with "Lulu".
However I am now dealing with all things suspension and if there is a spare set left over I would be delighted to have them. (I will pay you straight away).
Please be kind enough to let we know at the weekend.
All the best,
Chas and Anne. Smiley

but we always need a little stash of spare parts! And seriously I really do need a pair I'd just been trying to avoid expenditure at this moment but given your predicament I must give in gracefully and buy a pair if they are going spare!

Matt

While on this subject I think it would be helpful to post the required modification to these parts; ie that all the bolt holes require enlarging to M10. Is this doable with a good hand drill or is a bench drill required?

Looking at a Group Buy on the two engine dampers.

Please specify in the following format:

n x Cam Belt side damper

n x Gearbox side damper

I will leave this open for a month, then once we have total numbers will start gathering up funds from folks, then purchase them and distribute them accordingly.

Modifying the bush eyes from M8 to M10 will have to be done by yourselves.  (Done with a sharp 10mm drill and let the eye cool after 30 seconds of drilling)

Neil,

It was all posted up at the very beginning of this thread.

All,

In the interests of fairness I gave the current "No shows" until end of day today, I will confirm however many sets are available on Saturday morning.

I have the list of folks who are interested in taking the sets that have not been claimed/paid for.

A set ( 1 x gearbox side and 1 x Cam belt side) cost £87.70 in total. The group buy got them at £22.00 and £64.70 respectively.

Postage is not included in this, but UK Recorded Delivery was £3.65 for per set.  Obviously if your outside the UK it's more and I have used Fedex European Economy courier so that the items are fully insured and trackable.
