Great spot Tony, watching Grp 4 was what got me hooked on Lancias in the first place.....  Watching the might S4's with Henri Toivonen at the wheel... a true genius and legend. RIP  Sad

An era that was an unrestricted, engineers dream, will definitely record this...

Know what you mean - I just like them all, but espicially the later crop, from 037 onwards - apart from the Quattro Sport.  There are a couple of good short films out there.

1. Video (not sure if it made it to DVD) Greatest Years of Rallying 80s.
2. Actually the 70s video of the same series in good too, with Stratos and others included.
3. Film of Ari Vatanen driving Pikes Peak in the Peugeot 504, which was basically a stretched 205T16 and rebodied.  Later used for the rally raid car
4. Short film of Walter Rohl driving the Quattro Sport. Cameras outside side car but also of his feet dancing on the pedals - poetry! That one's on you tube I'm sure, as well as Pikes Peak.

Using iPhone do not able to post links.  May do a bit later.

Oh, and there are a fair few compilations of 80s rallying, just make sure you get the ones without the music tracks. Just turn up the volume and enjoy!! 80)

Cheers

I've seen the Walter Rohl video and his footwork is amazing. IIRC that's the one with a camera mounted on the front valance and two cams inside the car, one aimed at the pedal box.

The Pikes Peak film is awesome, I was in Colorado on business a couple of years ago and took a drive out to PP, it's an amazing place.  I'd die a happy man if I could be navigator in a Grp 4 doing the PPIHC.

Shame it's all Tarmac now as the old gravel sections I bet made it proper scary!

Yep, that's the one.

Here's the Pikes Peak - Climb Dance (High Quality) enjoy!  No co-driver, all gravel - and even a bit of one handed driving while he uses the other as a sun shield - absolutely incredible!!

Cheers

Ari Vatanen was obviously in his element and loved the Grp B's and you could see just how much the death of Henri Toivonen deeply affected Cesare Fiorio personally. Sad

It's ironic that F1 drivers went on strike over track safety about the same time that the rally drivers were striking over crowd control / safety issues and a number of rallies.  It was only a matter of time before it went badly wrong and the FIA should have done something. But Jean-Marie Balestre ran FIA like he was a god and only he was right.

Balestre has a lot to answer for IMO :-(

Agreed - but who the hell appoints a publisher to run international motorsport?
