I have checked a 34 I have on the shelf.
From the thermostatic side (water inlet/outlet) 80 / 150 / 120 / 50
Obviously there is no guarantee that this old carb has not been messed around with in the past.

I would look but I managed to fall off a ladder yesterday (due to my own stupidity) not from a great height but I've done my back in due to landing heavily ( probably too many pies....). Further than that I'd been cleaning two expansion tanks and was too injured at the time to remove them from the sink........you can guess what the wife said when she got home and I always thought that was what kitchens were for?? And normally what she doesn't see she doesn't worry about! Anyway hopefully I'll check the specs in a day or so for you when I creak a bit less

Yes, 80 nearest the inlet/outlet for the auto choke.

i have cleaned the carb out, and the jets are in the correct positions, but it still runs very rich, i put £5 worth of fuel in it and it used the lot in about 10 minutes whilst i was messing with the carb....anyone got any ideas?

Do you have a set of original 150 / 120 main jets? you can test with?
I'll check what jets are in my S2/FL tonight as I know they have standard jets.
Have you tried adjusting the mixture? I'm sure there is a small mixture screw (going from memory)

i got 3 carbs and they all have the same size jets, i am fairly sure the jets i have are correct for a 2 litre engine, the only adjustment i can see is a small screw near the base of the carb, i am not sure how to set this up, do i screw it all the way in and then out a certain number of turns ? (this how most motorbike carbs are set up)

2000 datr carb 1st (2nd) choke main jet 120 (150) air corrector 170 (240) emulsion tube f30 (f30) idle jet 50 (80) idling air jet 110 (70) pump jet 50 (na) super feed jet na (110) super feed mixture jet na (200) needle valve 175 float level with gasket 7mm +/- 0.25 this is measured by holding the top cover of the carb turned vertically and with the float hanging down distance between top of float arm and the carb top hope I've transcribed those right! Can't say that i really understand carbs so complicated and full of mystery I'd suspect maladjusted or faulty auto choke and/or float level setting and/or air leak in floats themselves and/or sticking needle valve

this wouldn't make such a huge difference to the fuel consumption however to set mixture I'd recommend using a gunson colortune dead easy that way and quite accurate the turn in /out X number of turns method isn't accurate enough
