Tony, I'll swing by and we'll head off together then meet up with Mark?

I will have to leave at 7AM to get to the services by 8AM which means getting the car warmed up and ready from about 6:30… the neighbours love me!

Could leave the services at 8:30 but its Saturday morning and not sure of traffic in that area?

Wink

PS: Have my Brooklands tickets too!

The weather forecast isn't looking good  Sad

That's a normal day for some of us Tony.  Tongue  In fact that would be considered a "30 minute lay in" for me.

Matt

Congratulations on winning a prize! We all want to see the pictures. It is great to see your car recognized for the fantastic vehicle it is. There was a good spread of the Beta range there on the day and a great catch up over warming coffees and hot pasta.

Cheers

Well done Matt, great to see the Beta profile raised in the public's eyes again. Shame the weather wasn't warmer (or drier), but that did not detract from the fun.

On a personal note we were thrilled that our first outing in our  HPE went ahead without any real problems. However we will have to cure the stuttering that occurs at between 1500-2000rpm when we are off throttle. This problem only happens when she's warm and the pick up is fine and strong otherwise. I do not think the problem lies with the ignition as most replaceables have been changed. The accelerator pump diaphram has also been swapped for a new one along with a careful bench clean of the carb and check of tubes / jets etc. They look fine, so I am left wondering about the accelerator pump on the VX carb or the auto choke?

Any thoughts on the above will be welcome as a six hour jouney to Norwich next month will definetely leave us "shaken, not stirred".

Great photos by the way!
best,
Chas and Anne,

Great photos Tony and well done again Matt on winning the prize, hope the wife likes it? Wink

Hope you both made it home OK with no further issues?

Apologies for diving off so quickly without saying proper goodbyes, seems I was in trouble for dragging the other half away from getting her nails done… Huh?

Great to see you all, next week Brooklands!

Well done Matt, definitely well deserved!

Some nice machinery on view there - let's hope that there will be more of the same next weekend at Brooklands!

Cheers

Hi All,

Despite the weather and my little hiccup at Leigh Delamere services it was actually a great day, especially as I also got to spend some "man time" with my Dad who was born & bred in Bristol so he took me round his old haunts!

Great as always to meet new people and put faces to names.  Nice to meet Chas & Phil Edwards plus all the usual forum suspects!

I honestly thought Tony was winding me up as I could hear sniggering in the background when he rang me to say I'd won a prize (I was in the pub Grin)  My wife was surprisingly proud of me (normal she'll just raise an eyebrow or tut).  I've never won anything and to be honest I didn't even know there were any awards, but was chuffed that I'd won something, especially as there were several high quality Betas in attendance.

No more issues on the way home 100% fault free, when I got the car into my garage at home I discovered that I'd pushed stuff into the back of my boot and kinked the fuel tank breather hose, which caused a vacuum in the fuel tank after covering 75 miles and when I stopped I suspect it drew the fuel back out of the fuel filter & fuel pipe and hence no fuel was getting through, combined with a battery that is 5+ years old and probably not 100% trying to run all the lights, wipers and heater fan on setting 1 to keep us warm led to a weaker than normal spark.

I collect the new starter motor on Thursday so will have that on for Brooklands and there will be no more "clicking"   :-)

The rosette & award now live in my office amongst all my pictures of all my previous Lancias and numerous Beta parts.

The idling is not bad, but it does not seem to settle down to a steady RPM. "Hunting" is the expression I think. Also here's a wierd side symptom. When the engine is warmed up and if you pull the wire off the "low oil pressure switch", the car dies! I know the hot fuel vapour pump circuit is grounded through that oil switch via the relay, so is there a gremlin there as well? I have ordered a new switch to check the existing one is ok (or otherwise), and will substitute another correct relay as well just in case this has been compromised by this mysterious gremlin!
The plugs show a good biscuity colour and I achieved 25mpg on the 130mile run to Bristol and back last weekend. So Timing and mixture seems OK?
I have to sort this before Norwich or the jouney will be fraught to say the least.
Any advise would be welcome.
Chas,
