Hi all,

All the Betas had bonnet liners when new- my HPE VX doesn't have one fitted. I know a reproduction item is available from Betaboyz but could someone explain to me it's original purpose? Am I right in thinking it was twofold- noise reduction and condensation prevention? Or were there other reasons for it?

It was also designed to make the underside of the bonnet look neater and hide the underside of the bonnets structural design.

Granted over time if not looked after they get tatty.

That's good to know- maybe I'll get one. I'm busy tidying the underbonnet area whilst waiting for my windscreen to be delivered  Smiley

Is issue not that only repro item available is for standard car so you would have to cut hole for supercharger-I would love to buy liner for my VX HPE if one was available?

Yes, IMHO I think the reproduced version is better than the original.

Ah, fair point. I'm sure it could be done neatly though. Thotos/Matt- any opinion on what the material would be like when cut to fit a VX?

Can you post up a picture of an original VX bonnet liner?

It would be handy to see where any cuts need to be made and what would need to be done to stop any edges freying.

I cannot recall from memory the detail of the VX bonnet liner. I know the VX bonnet has the power bulge but a can't recall what the liner looks like.

I can't because I haven't got one. I too have no idea what one looks like; whether there was a cutout or if the liner was a different shape to accomodate the bulge I don't know. If anyone else can assist I for one would be very grateful- I don't want to buy the liner if it won't fit a VX.

I'm not convinced the inner skin of the bonnet is any different to any other and the outer is just for looks? Every vx pic of the bonnet i've seen usefully doesn't show a bonnet liner at all Angry see this vx hpe courtesy of Tony http://www.flickr.com/photos/tonysphotos/4451422219/#in/photostream/ looks exactly the same as mine from the inside inless i've missed something; and by the looks of things http://www.flickr.com/photos/80688018@N00/476780878/# everything is below the bonnet line in the engine bay so shouldn't need a bulge in the inside of the bonnet Huh?

you can get away with a 'normal' bonnet on a VX without a liner the bulge/bump does however provide adequate clearance over the top of the carb air intake I haven't seen a VX with a bonnet liner but I presume that the bulge takes account of the thickness of the liner. When I've time I'll check my microfiche to see if the liner is different or not

A few months ago finally scrapped my rusty spares HPE VX and was my intention to remove and reuse VX bonnet liner which was different-it had indentation matching bulge in bonnet.  Unfortunately liner fell to bits in my hands as I removed it!

So the big question is whether the reproduced version fits a VX without modification and still allows for adequate clearance.

Anyone out there tried this yet?

I reckon it would probably fit, but I don't have a VX to try it on.

I suspect that it would fit BUT it would probably rub on the top of the intake maybe the easy option would be for betaboyz to do a mat with a cut out section above the carb for VX versions not original in looks but probably the easiest answer???

another question that all this bonnet talk brought to mind how many cars have the pins fitted that stop the bonnet going through the windscreen in an accident? For some reason they seem to have been omitted on later cars (??) even though the threads and the slotted housing remain in place, I have them on my car but the previous owner fitted them
