Do we have a register of known cars? Reg nos, chassis nos build dates and so forth ?

If not and we want / need one then I'm more than happy to set one up.

Hi Stuart
Doesn't the LMC run something similar to this with the online database?

It does but not all Beta owners are LMC members.

I was an LMC member for a while but I concluded it didn't have that much to offer me as an owner of post Fiat era cars.

I have to agree I was a LMC member for 23 years but gave up a few years ago not the pleasure to be a member that it used to be and tbh when I resigned membership no one at the club was much bothered and no one has ever attempted to get me to rejoin in any way shape or form. So yes there are lots of beta owners out there who are not LMC members. Can I suggest that the register includes not only current vehicles but any that have been owned in the past plus any that have definitely been scrapped

in an idle moment I decided to start compiling a list of reg numbers and colours of volumex coupés I have not recorded owners just wanted to see how many survive etc. By going through old LMC registers and other sources then checking status on line I have come up with a list of about 90 of the original 150 UK cars of these 11 cars are taxed 15 are on sorn when looking on the dvla website the rest either are unlicenced or come up as not found  I think it is fair to assume most of these have been scrapped, all i need now is the other 60-ish cars and there'll be a full picture pity it's not possible to get DVLA to press a button and give the info for free :-(

that's interesting but it doesn't seem to tie in well with my figures I think i need to laboriously go through every re number on www.cartell.ie to check if they are all definitely vx coupés Vxs were never shown as Beta on reg docs incidentally but as 'LANCIA COUPE 2000 VX'

actually looking at the HPE VX figures I really think they are wrong surely there must have been more than 3 taxed during 2010

ah now I see for some are registered as 'coupe volumex' and some as 'coupé 2000 vx'  and similar for the HPE

Does the data on www.howmanyleft.co.uk relate to how many vehicles of a particular type are taxed or registered (i.e. those taxed plus those on SORN)? And if a vehicle has been untaxed prior to when SORN was introduced, do they also figure in the stats?

Anybody know?

if you click on the entry it gives licenced and sorn any cars that have been off road before sorn started will not show as they will be 'unlicenced' as will be any write offs or cars in possession of the motor trade. the coded descriptions seem a bit hit and miss (like with the volumex models) plus there are a lot of unidentified lancias listed either most likely very old cars or personal imports

Does anyone know what the differences is between the two Beta 1600 entries are?  N3016 & N3014 relate to Beta 1600  but is the two codes for S1 / S2?  Or Auto / Manual?   Or Coupe/HPE/Berlina.

Handy site but at best its an rough indicator, there seem to be 25 or so 2000 Coupes on the road (doesn't seem like many to me) and 30 odd that are on SORN - obviously the cars that are pre SORN and just sat languishing somewhere.

The 1600 Betas seem to have circa 49 in total for 2010, then 7 seem to have gone off SORN (presumably scrapped).

I genuinely did not realise that there are so few Coupes left!!

if the register is anything like it used to be that will be a gross over estimate because  lmc members are notorious in not updating info plus a fair few are doubtless beyond saving sat rusting in soneones garden

Don't know if the figures come from the new database brought in last year. Overall car ownership equates to roughly one car per member so can't be too far off (some have double figure collections). 400 Fulvias are listed suggesting these may now be the most numerous Lancias surviving in the UK?
