When turning right and applying the indicator stalk, it does not engage i.e. it flicks back to its neutral state. This happens more often than not, unfortunately it has just failed its MOT on this subject- Everything else okay.

The question is, is there a quick fix to get around it or if not what is involved  and what parts do I require to get my VX its ticket?

Suggestions please.

Cheers,

Paul.

could be a couple of things, plastic trigger on the column out of alignment or
knackered switch.(more likely the first if it only happens in one direction) -
the collar on the column has to set and cancel the switch, if that makes sense.

Cheers Geoff,

So does that mean the trigger can be re-aligned and if so is it a simple job for anyone with a bit of mechanical knowledge or not?

It does only fail to engage when indicating right, left is fine. But if it is the switch that's goosed what is involved in replacing it and has anyone got one?

Hi Paul,
the trigger ring should fit into a slot, it's possible that the steering has been
re-aligned at some point and this is placing the trigger "out of phase"

Be careful removing the steering wheel, or you could lose a couple of teeth.
loosen the nut but don't remove it, this will stop the wheel hitting you in
the face. you can then see the trigger, check its position it should be directly
aligned with the centre of the indicator switch, if not remove it, it will have a
spring clip around it but it should pull off quite easily, reposition with a spot
of glue in necessary.
If it is in alignment then it's a switch fault, you can take the switch apart and
check the internal parts are functioning, you can also check its operation by
holding the little lever and operating the switch, then flick the little lever to
see if it cancels.

Sorry a bit long winded and you may already know most of the above.
regards
