I have the Haynes manual, and struggle with the diagram I've worked on many cars in my time dating back to Marinas, Allegros, Corollas, Orions , Capris etc. so I understand wiring, electrics, fault finding and so on. But this Haynes manual doesn't reflect reality! Different wiring colours is my main gripe but even the number of wires on a connector are simply wrong.
So, are there any trustworthy sources you can point me to?

Hi
Haynes covers pre f/l, what you need is a printout from the fiche, I would suggest, which covers the facelift cars.

Later Handbooks have them tucked in the back cover and they fold out to A3 so you are looking for a handbook with wiring diagram.

You learn something every day... So there are 'early' and 'late' Haynes Beta manuals? If so that would explain the bewilderment I experienced when reconnecting the engine bay wiring after an engine swap a year or so ago.

There are only really incorrect Haynes manuals as always they don't cover every variation, the Beta isn't the only example of this phenomenon. They are ok as an overview but that is about it, you can't beat the official manual plus tech books really.

You can probably guess my next question... what is the 'official manual' of which you speak? I have what purports to be the Beta Repair Shop manual in 11 different PDFs covering the 17 sections, but it is dated 1976 and my model is a 1980 Spider 2000. The largest engine size referenced is 1800 cc. Does such a manual exist for my model/year?

There is just the main manual covering the S1 cars but there are numerous technical data books that provide the updates you need. It is to be fair a bit complicated and not helped by the change in format over the years You do need to be a fairly quick witted anorak to know which piece of information you actually need for a particular car!

Are these technical data books available for download? In a previous lifetime I was a mainframe systems programmer, so am used to burying my head in manuals (usually IBM).

I suspect Eric means the handbook which came with the car. As to Haynes being incorrect, for my car 76 model it is pretty well correct and have used it a fair amount. Sadly I do not think there was ever an update to cover the facelift cars, hence the issues that folk have with it. Peter

Someone in the Netherlands sells them on a CD https://viva-lancia.com/specials/cd/beta-cd.php, not sure they cover every document though, however your best option is to get hold of a parts book as the exploded diagrams are very helpful, there are 3 different books for S1,S2 and S2FL but FL2 are sadly only on microfiche, you can see exactly how everything fits together.

I've made contact with Arnoud Coenen in NL and asked what (if anything) he has for an S2FL Spider 2000. I'm in awe of your Beta manuals collection. That must elevate you to 'world expert' status... I will definitely be on the hunt for an S2FL parts book...

I'm no expert I just like to have a reference library, I have over 200 sales brochures too. You are welcome to call in and have a look if you are nearby and I happen to be in
