Well had a quick look at Incy Wincy the Spider this aft.Changed the plugs but still not right.Waiting for a dizzy cap to arrive,hopefully tomorrow.The leads definately need changing as they are a bit like pipe cleaners,bend them to shape and they stay that way !! Thing is,my local motor bits shops (all of them) dont have any sets listed in their parts, or even for a Delta before '88, so does anyone have a rough idea of individual lenghts so I can go get them individually or at least find out if another vehicles will be long enough without looking through a shops entire boxed stock........as one of them wanted me to do ! Also as I've not taken the cap off yet I have no idea what the rotor looks like, so anyone got any pics or better a part number (and manf. if poss)so I can look on Fleabay,seen 4 different ones on there so far all claiming to be for a Beta ! How do you get your hand into one of the screws on the cap,too deep for my fingers to reach even if my hand could fit in the gap Thanks for the info regarding door locks, did what you said (but not philips head, it was slotted )and now they lock. That is when I discovered that the passenger window is infact a polycarbonate one !!

Are there no lead sets on eBay? If not I'll try to measure mine up for you tomorrow. I know what you mean about the rear dizzy screw. I think it's a matter of teasing it in/out with a long screwdriver. As to the rotor arm I'd put a separate post under 'part numbers wanted' with the date and series of your car. I'm sure Matt or Rosso will dig it out for you then.

So..................talking to one's self doesn't always mean you are off your trolley then !! HELLO...................anyone out there Betas are quite rare these days so there's not all that many active members out there so replies can take a few hours!! Easiest to measure your leads and take measurements to a factor. As regards to ignition components there are quite a few variations you need to check yours visually against any replacement to make 100% sure you get the right one. You will find this with many items on Betas it's a fact of life with Italian cars lots of minor component variations over time but it all adds to the fun!

As you already have HT leads on your car why not measure them and determine the length of each or use a length of string or wire? You can then maybe add a little extra length if you wish to route them differently. I would go with good quality 8mm HT leads myself. You will not find "Off the shelf" bits for a Beta......, it's 35 years old and Lancia completely withdrew from the UK in 1994, so motor factors will not be stocking Beta parts unless it's a shared component with a more popular marque/model. You'll have to use specialist suppliers. Have you looked at http://www.lanciabetaparts.co.uk/ If you look under Ignition / Electrical you will find everything you need. Been on that site for a nosey already. How do I tell by looking (without removing cap ) which type of distributor I have ? Is it to do with cap colour as mine is red ? dont want to order wrong bits !

I think your going to have to pop the dizzy cap off if you want to be 100% certain.
I don't think you can go soley on the colour of the cap. A visual identification of the dizzy and then the model of car will determine what you need.

Hi I have just purchased a set from my local auto shop. I think they cost approx. £14or£17 for the set. The shop .is called A. V Taylor's Newcastle upon Tyne. I think they have a web page?

As Incy Wincy has the 'single unit' headlights, what would I need to convert ? The inner mounts (as I'm thinking) have two individual glassless lights, so could I put lights with glass in the holders and just do away with the outer glass and get a set of the outer mount frames from Betaboyz ? If not how do I go about it / Cheers Steve.

better to keep the single piece units if you can but to change you would need to find second hand carello backing plates that will take after market 5 3/4 lamps

Thing is I cant seem to find any replacement lamps without the glass fitted, and the ones I have need re-silvering !So just weighing up which option would be most cost viable. Anyone know where I could source a set from ??

The bad news is that the single piece lamps are like rocking horse poo. It took me two years to find a pair at anything like a sensible price (eg you can buy NOS units from Aus for £250 each!) and even then I had to swap lenses and reflectors around.
The good news is that so long as the lenses are OK there is a solution. With care you can dig out the sealant that they're stuck on with and prise the lenses off. The bowls inside the unit can then be got out and they are metal so they can be resilvered.
Personally I'd do everything I could to keep the single piece lamps as they are so rare and give the car a disticntive look.

Already came with them dismantled, so got 4 'bowls' sat in a bag wondering what is going on !Also there is a complte light unit with the glass still attached and a spare 'Carrelo' glass.One of the complete units is a Carrelo and the other is iirc a Marchel( ) one. I'll go get some pics tomorrow so folk know what I'm waffling on about.

OK so no problem then. You're best off getting the bowls re-silvered and then putting them back together again. Do check that the lenses dip the correct way, there's loads of them that are Euro spec.
Carrelo is the correct lens for the Spider & Coupe. HPEs used Siem. Marchell I've not seen so a photo of that would be handy.
You can convert to the 2 lamp (per side) set-up but you can't easily use any of the sinlge lamp parts - you'd need complete replacement assemblies.

That's about what I expected.
The glasses are interchangeable so that's not a problem (although you'll have an unmatched pair). IIRC the bowls are too.
Those bowls look fine to be resilvered. Be carefull with the plastic clips that hold the bowls as they break really easily and they are NLA. Is it my imagination or is one of the Carrelo units missing the metal pegs / posts that hold the clips and support the bowls?
If so - I've got plenty.

Think you could be correct regarding posts ..........think that is why the 'replacement' Siem one was in the boot !! I think though that any spare bits are worth having. So when I get some cash spare I'll get in touch as I've recently just done a deal over a Super charger kit.................... either for Incy or the Delta (known as frank (Frankenstien) due to the mix and match of bits )so later will be wondering how to attach it !
