Hoping someone can shed some light on the differing air filters and configurations on the various models

There seems to be some air filters that only have outlet to rear over back of engine

Others have intake to front next to radiator

While others have two outlets with tubes to both front and rear

Also any help with fitting the air filter front intake tube cover that appears to connect to bracket attached to battery

Some photos and diagrams would be great

Any assistance will be much appreciated

Hi

I will start with the early cars which, in the UK at least, have two pipes from the air filter housing. One to the rear of the engine near the exhaust manifold and and one to the front of the engine. The lid of the air filter is rotated to select which one to use, normally set to the rear for winter time, front for rest.

The facelift cars have single inlet which splits into two, again one to the rear of the engine and one to the front. The choice of air source is via a temp sensor attached to the air filter housing, ie it is automatic.

As to any other style, I have seen any more

Never seen a car with an intake down the back of the engine only. The configurations are as described by Peter as far as I am aware, plus the late VX/ie boxes with the bar type element.

Don't suppose you have a picture of the engine bay do you? Curious why that would be.

Do not have the S1 parts list to hand, but pre f/l S2 cars have a specific air filter for Australia.

Can you send pic of the Australian specific air intake - that could be why our parts don't seem to match anything I can find online. Thanks

There is no picture in the parts book of that specific one, so someone with an actual one is required, anyone?

Hi

Just checked my books and that is for the series 1 cars, the series 2 have the dual pipes, I will scan the page and post when I get in the office where the scanner is.

Hi

So the above posted by Lukas is the Series 1 air filter, below is the Series 2 version of the same filter.

Hi

Sadly, not many of us Beta owners in the UK have aircon fitted. We have to make do with opening the windows and/or dropping the roof if you have a convertible…….

Hopefully useful to some.

I think perhaps a robot posted that a/c piece.
A USA based 'member' chatting about a company in Singapore.

And the very first post the 'member' makes is to leave a link that may or may not contain malware. Highly dubious.

Hi

Yep, good point I can usually spot the spam member requests, this one looking genuine, will get the entry deleted and member banned…
