Hi There,

Have a couple of queries with gear box & diff casing.

Firstly was there or should there be a gasket at the joining between the diff case & gear box casing??  Doesnt seem to have one and workbook manual we have doesnt show one.  Although just feels as though there should be a gasket

Second query is regarding the original color / painting of the gear box & diff casing.  We are working on 2 cars at the moment one has a light brown colored paint over these whereas the other car has no paint.  Just wondering which one was original.  guessing they were not painted but wanting to confirm if anyone knew.

cheers

There must be a gasket between the casings as both of them are filled with the same oil. Originally there was no paint at the boxes, just alloy cast.

regards
p.s. where do you live in Oz?

Hi there

There is no gasket on the diff housing to the gearbox but there are gaskets every where else. The diff casing usually has a gasket compound fitted. I have built a lot of these gearboxes and they are originally in raw aluminium. I tend to bead blast the casings or sand blast and spray them silver.

So just out of interest what is part 82310072 in the picture above? I took that to be a gasket?

all literature we read & could find had no gasket but a compound or silicone used to seal it

we also beed blasted the casings and have sprayed silver
