I've refitted the heater in the spyder this morning but as I was forced to cut and connect the original heater hoses under the bonnet bypassing the heater core, and due to fitting the newer type top water rail with the little pipe between it and the head, I just need to know clearly which hose goes where.
As I see it, the hose from the back rail (water pump) goes to the heater valve and the straight outlet from the core goes to the top rail with a short hose between the top rail and the original hose connection on the head.
Also, and on a different topic entirely, where is the sender for the oil temperature gauge?
Is it the one on the right-hand (timing belt) end of the alloy filter housing almost behind the alternator?
I'm trying to sort the oil temp gauge which has three states at present-Cold, mid-point and off the scale within ten minutes of start-up.
I suspect the gauge as I didn't have this problem until I changed the instrument cluster last year and it'll be easy to check the sender with a multimeter.

Oil pressure and oil temp senders are located on the filter housing.  The larger of the two is the pressure sender and the smaller one is the temp sender which IIRC is on the offside (cam belt side).

You need someone with a late VX model to help with the correct pipe routing question.

There are actually three "senders" in that area on my baby and as far as I can tell, the one you have identified is the oil temp sender. There is an oil pressure light switch which I was incorrectly calling a sender.
I'm about 99% certain I have the heater hoses sorted, but a friend of mine here has a late-model vx so a trip to his home will be in order before I blow something up.
Now for something completely different-my horn is intermittent at best.
I've tracked it down to the fact that there is no real earth connection on the actual steering column shaft to which the wheel is attached so do I need to connect an earth from the chassis to the rack?
Everything works 100% of the time as long as I conect some form of earth to the wheel boss and the brush and slipring work as they should and I've cleaned the spade terminal on the back of the brush so all I can think of is there must be insufficient contact on the shaft due to it being bushed and the rack being mounted on rubber damping bushings as well.
On the plus side, I replaced the entire wiper linkage and motor assembly with a very clean one from my recent haul and now the wipers actually work at a respectable speed.
Previously the "High" setting was required to remove mist and drizzle with low and intermittent being like something from a 1900's car with the intermittent actually stopping halfway up the screen on the first pulse and completing the sweep on the second pulse.
It's amazing how much still needs doing with just the basics really.
Still, it's an enjoyable project and personally I get as much if not more pleasure from the doing as from the driving.
