Title: Expansion Tank Post by: Ammy on June 25, 2010, 02:26:45 PM Hi. Dosen't appear to be my year. Does anyone have a coolant expansion tank for a '78 spyder? Current one has started to leak under pressure. Have tried a repair but unsuccessful. Thanks Ammy

Title: Re: Expansion Tank Post by: Ammy on June 26, 2010, 02:10:05 PM Hi Graham. It's the rectangle type. Have found a curved one but would prefer not to have to carry out modifications. Fingers crossed ! ! !
Many Thanks, Alwyn Title: Re: Expansion Tank Post by: cheeky monkey on June 26, 2010, 05:42:24 PM sorry Alwyn. X'g fingers didnt work this time.. Its the curved one. I know what you mean about the mod
I have same problem with the rectangle one. TRied various types of araldite, fernox and other putty type stuff but it will always blow through after a while Title: Re: Expansion Tank Post by: Ammy on June 26, 2010, 06:52:26 PM Thanks Graham, I'll have to modify the curved one to fit. You're right, nothing will bond to the tank material. I thought I'd made an excellent job with glass fibre resin and fine matting but after a 5 mile run it just fell away.
I'll give it one more day and then start the mod. Cheers, Alwyn Title: Re: Expansion Tank Post by: carl59862 on June 26, 2010, 07:21:03 PM Ammy, I will have a look at the expansion tank on my 1600 spyder that I have been using for parts when I get chance. Could you post a pic of the type you need?
Carl. Title: Re: Expansion Tank Post by: Ammy on June 27, 2010, 10:34:54 AM Hi Carl. Fingers crossd again. Having difficulty sending photo, (It's my age) There are only two tanks. One is rectangular , one is curved. I'm after the rectangular one, it's about 230mm by 150mm.
Many Thanks, Alwyn Title: Re: Expansion Tank Post by: Thotos on June 27, 2010, 11:49:31 AM Is it like the one below? I need one of those too but they are very expensive new!

It is possible to modify the curved one, the difficulty is providing the lower support. If I have no success with a replacement I'll go ahead with the mod. and post it.
