Title: Cambelt Tensioner Spring Post by: Neil-yaj396 on April 08, 2010, 04:23:36 PM Has anyone got any tips as to how to get the cambelt tensioner spring back on? The method shown in Haynes using a screwdriver as a lever is fine with the engine out, but 'in car' the screwdriver fouls the front cam wheel so that the spring end is shy of it's hole.
How annoying as I didn't need to take off the belt afterall! :'( Any idea most welcome so the car can get off for it's MOT. Havn't seen how the haynes describes it but I use a slotted screwdriver of very long and thick proportions, wedge it somewhere against the engine (sorry cant remember) and it just about leavers it enough to get it back into the hole. I might have also loosened the 13mm I believe it is bolt type thing the spring is attached to slightly to help; I havn't had to do anything engine wise to mine since I rebuilt the head after the head gasket went 3 years ago so i'm not much help. Damn reliable oil leak free engine :)
