Title: Coupe Carpet Trim Problem.. Post by: SanRemo78 on February 20, 2025, 04:34:59 PM Okay, the carpet on the back panel of a Coupe has a plastic trim to the top and is secured in place by a couple of M6 threaded thumbscrews. These screw into a thread in a box section in the body that the boot lid closes over. But what are the fixings that it screws into? I naively thought that they were cage nuts and bought a few. Now I realise that they can't be installed inside the box section as there is no opening to allow me to pass them into to locate them. Unless there is a knack to it!
Am I using the wrong fixing method? Anyone got a photograph or ideas how to fit them if cage nuts are the way to go? The hole in the panel is an oblong slot so it's not the usual plastic plug. Cage nuts fitted and thumbscrews fitted holding the carpet in place.
How? Pushed a cable tie through the cage nut, the head being bigger than the threaded hole so it can't fall off. Pushed the end of the cable tie through a larger circular hole and out the rectangular hole next to it then pull the cable and cage nut to the back of the hole, lifted the cable tie so that the lower groove pops out of the hole, pulled it a little tighter end and used a thin electrical screwdriver to depress the upper groove enough to pop through the panel and job's done. Insurmountable problem sorted with 5 minutes thinking over a cuppa! Now to finish the tea. And move on to the next job. Guy |
