Title: Under carpet felt alternative
Post by: lancialulu on December 09, 2024, 06:17:41 PM
What do people do to replace the moulded thick felt (with black topping) one piece under carpet sound deadening.

The rear portion can be reused but the front disintegrated and in now in the bin....

I know about sound deadening self adhesive panels such as dynamat but would like something thicker (possibly closed cell rather than hessian) to replicate the original carpet underlay

Watching as I'm in the same position! My bulkhead mat pretty much disintegrated after a year of being moved around the garage. I'm planning on Dynamatting pretty much every panel but may look into a heat reflective option on top of that for the bulkhead.

Dynamat sell a closed cell foam layer that goes over Dynamat in various thicknesses. I have it in my Montecarlo which is now far quieter than factory.

Eric

If you search for the Dynamat item 10 copies will appear.

I used a generic closed cell foam in the Spider which went down ok, but not sure about it’s long term stability under the carpet with feet pressure, the other areas it should be ok long term. I also have a set of tailored mats in the footwells.

I used a closed-cell foam from Jewsons. It's 100mm wide, 10mm thick and come in
5m rolls.
A brief description is on page 6 of my "HPE rolling restoration" page.

There's also a link to the foam-backed foil I put on top.
