Title: camshaft drive wheels torque
Post by: Betared on September 24, 2024, 11:34:25 AM
Hi,we are in the situation where we need to torque up the camshaft drives with the head on the engine and in the car.Has anyone been in the same position and devised a means of locking the camshafts to do so? David.

Hi David,
I would fit the old timing belt, properly timed up, slightly over tighten it,
and hold the crank with the correct socket.
The torque required for the cam wheels is almost half that of the crank nut
so there's little possibility of affecting the crank nut.

You could also hold the flywheel with a pry bar through the top of the bell housing.

Others may have different ideas.

Don't try to lock the wheels with a screwdriver. I did this long a go when trying to undo the camwheels and chipped off a tooth.
