Title: Limit straps for Betaboyz coil springs
Post by: Clifford3051 on September 06, 2024, 06:26:28 PM
Hi all
2 years later after buying some Betaboyz lowered springs, I have finally had them fitted. Stance use lovely.
My mechanic suggested considering limit straps so that when the car is jacked up everything stays aligned when dropped.
Has anyone used these and if so, what length is needed?
Thanks
C

My car is still in bits however I have got around to putting the rear springs on and I find the slack at full extension concerning and, I suspect, a possible MOT fail so I'd be interested to know what people have done.
I don't like the idea of limit straps TBH.

Can you get some helper springs like those used on coilovers.  see e.g.  https://suspensionsecrets.co.uk/helper-springs-and-tender-springs-the-difference/

It is a fair concern. Years ago when faced with this and the need to reduce rear squat I had the strut rods machined down (shortened) by 25mm. It needs the inserts removing from the struts of course.

Hi All,

I had the very same problem with the rear shorted springs, I also shared similar concerns that if you went over a bump or something the spring could become dislodged.
Tried a number of solutions but eventually ended up with this ( Ignore the Fiat top mounts I have welded on )

Similar to the straps idea but instead I drilled 3 holes in the top mount and at the bottom then secured the springs with Stainless Zip ties, in my testing thus far I have had no issues.

Cheers George

Thought about that, was it straightforward to get done?

Hi Alan,

Yes for a competent machine shop. Remember the thread also has to be extended. The biggest challenge is holding the strut insert in a lathe with the rod held. I forgot how they managed it now. Obviously if they are oil based and taken apart then that is simple.

Thanks I'll bear it in mind, no time at the minute for much messing with old cars!

Thanks, I had a look at these but unfortunately the ones available don't look like they would fit in terms of size and format. They look a good idea though

So not much experience of the straps from what has been said to date, but thank you all for ideas and comments.
George that looks particularly neat in the photos so thank you for posting those for us to see.
