Title: Steering column cowlings Post by: Dogsbody on July 31, 2023, 05:58:37 PM Can anyone tell me how to remove the upper and lower steering column cowlings as I want to change my column switchgear? ( 1982 Series 2 Coupe).
Cheers, David. Title: Re: Steering column cowlings Post by: SanRemo78 on July 31, 2023, 06:37:54 PM Four phillips screws from underneath hold the two halves together. There should be a further screw holding the lower shroud to the column which will then drop away. The top one can be lifted up to allow access to the two screws holding the switchgear to the column and there are three electrical connectors to undo.
Simples. Guy Title: Re: Steering column cowlings Post by: Nigel on July 31, 2023, 09:24:36 PM What Guy said.
In addition, to completely remove the top cowl, you need to slacken the steering column 4 x 10mm nuts right back. This gives you the clearance required. I'd found 2 of the 4 and the central one but I'll have look closer under the column for the other two.
At least I now know what I'm looking for. Cheers, David. Title: Re: Steering column cowlings Post by: SanRemo78 on August 01, 2023, 10:42:41 AM The layout is like the five dots on a dice, the central one being the one that attaches the lower half to the column. If you've found 2 I'll guess they're the upper ones?
