Title: Rear fog light - Beta Volumex
Post by: 3bar on December 04, 2022, 04:05:53 AM
Hi all

Help please, busy on a Beta Volumex and trying to get rear fog lights working (some hack has been into the boot area before and its a wee bit of a mess)

So the good

The rear fog light switch down by the gear lever, triggers the rear fog light inidcation in the cluster, but there is never a change in behaviour of any of the wires in the boot - to me this means that the fuse / relay / switch / status light are working well
and i just need the "switched" power to the rear fog lights.

However all I have is two grey with red trace wires on each side of the boot without a home, but these two wires dont change / show voltage when the switch is triggered

so my question is

What colour wire is used for the rear fog lights (the below the bumper lights) (if its not the grey with red I have) ? and is my presumption correct that if the indicator on dash light works the rest of the circuit is sound or is the switch perhaps a "double pole" ie it switches the dash light and rear actual lights on two seperate contacts ? - I dont want to take the switch to pieces to check

Thanks for reading

Cheers

Hi,

On my 84 HPE it is the grey/red wires that feed the fog lights.
So your assumption is correct.
These rear fogs only work when the dipped beams are on. When main beams
are on, or only side lights are on, the fogs go out. Edit: the warning lamp
in the cluster mimics the fog light operation.
(However, I see you're in NZ,
and lighting regs may be different to UK, hence possible operational variations)

The grey/red cables run down each side of the car to connectors above the bins/speaker
area. Check there for continuity.

Hope this helps.
