Title: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: peteracs on June 09, 2022, 10:54:45 PM Sadly I will not be attending this year as have a holiday booked for that week. I was however wondering if there was an appetite for applying for a stand at any of the other larger shows next year?

Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: peteracs on June 10, 2022, 09:16:51 AM Hi Neil
Bad wording, I meant the shows which attract folk from all over such as the restoration show, probably not one for us, but hopefully you get the idea? I seem to remember you have done the Tatton Park one before? Peter Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: Neil-yaj396 on July 04, 2022, 03:42:28 PM Hi Neil Bad wording, I meant the shows which attract folk from all over such as the restoration show, probably not one for us, but hopefully you get the idea? Peter I did the Manchester CCS for a couple of years for LMC, but that show, organised by the former NEC Team fell by the wayside, which was a shame. Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: peteracs on September 24, 2022, 12:27:42 PM Hi
Well having said maybe not to the restoration show I wonder if it may be one to try out? It is in March 2023, see https://www.necrestorationshow.com/. (https://www.necrestorationshow.com/.) Anyone fancy helping out if I organise it? Peter Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: TonyLanciaBeta on September 24, 2022, 08:50:15 PM Hi Peter
I would be very happy to help for a couple of days. Tony Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: peteracs on September 24, 2022, 09:36:26 PM Hi Tony
Thanks for the offer. Peter Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: peteracs on September 24, 2022, 09:39:29 PM Following on from this I would also appreciate some ideas on what and how to show given this is a restoration show, not like the November show.
Once I have a clear idea on whether to proceed to apply, I will transfer these to a new thread. Peter Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: chrisc on October 05, 2022, 09:51:40 PM One cheeky idea popped into my head as I received the latest painfully high bill for my beta restoration.
Can we get one more beta on the road over the course of the restoration show? Get it in the centre of the stand, get the collective expertise mucking in on whatever needs doing? It'd need to be a car with a fairly limited amount of work needed, or perhaps a limited but tangible scope of a bigger project. Recommissioning a laid up but otherwise sound car perhaps, or getting a non runner going? Obviously I was cheekily thinking of my own car a bit here, but I suspect I'll be done by then - it's primarily refitting the interior left now Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: peteracs on October 06, 2022, 08:31:12 AM Hi Chris
Sort of along my thoughts, but I first need a few folk to step up and commit to help man the stand for either part of a day or more to make it workable. So anyone prepared to help out? Peter Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: chrisc on October 06, 2022, 02:12:45 PM Happy to put my hand up for it, slight caveat that I'm far less capable / knowledgeable than most.
This is Fri 24-Sun 26 March at the NEC to save people a google. £57 for the 3 days / £40 two days / £25 one day Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: peteracs on October 06, 2022, 04:33:36 PM Hi Chris
You will be no worse than me on my first NEC bout of stand duty. The key is having one or more actually on the stand at all times. Nothing worse than someone coming onto an un-manned stand. What we do on the stand can be decided later, just need bodies and note exhibitors do not have to pay to get in….. Peter Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: peteracs on October 08, 2022, 02:29:28 PM Hi
Thanks to Tony and Bob volunteering to help I am going to put in an application for this show. The dates are the 24th to 26th March with setup on the 23rd. If anyone else would like to donate a day or more to helping out that would be great. Also looking for ideas on what to put on the stand as they prefer some sort of work in progress given the show’s theme. Peter Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: mangocrazy on October 08, 2022, 07:20:14 PM Perhaps when I tow the Spider back to the UK I could make the dates coincide and drop the car off. You would need a decent sized catch tray under the car to collect errant fluids... ;D
Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: Neil-yaj396 on October 09, 2022, 11:22:39 AM Peter
I could help out on the Friday if you need me. I'd have offered more time, but I had already booked tickets for a show in Manchester on the Saturday. Neil Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: peteracs on October 11, 2022, 08:27:06 AM Thanks Neil, I will PM you. Had confirmation of application. We should get confirmation if we have a stand and size/position during December. In the mean time if anyone has any ideas for the stand or an nteresting car, think some restoration required and able to get it to the show then let me know!
Peter Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: HFStuart on October 15, 2022, 04:48:03 PM Peter - do you think my spider shell wold be of interest on the stand? No idea what state it'll be in.
Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: peteracs on October 15, 2022, 06:30:59 PM Hi Stuart
It would be if great interest I would think. So how do we get it there would be my first question? Thanks Peter Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: HFStuart on October 15, 2022, 11:00:09 PM It would be if great interest I would think. So how do we get it there would be my first question? I can always beg / borrow / hire a trailer and tow it over with the horsebox. The shell itself isn't very heavy so moving it about is easy enough - It'd probably be best to show it on the rotisserie. Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: peteracs on December 20, 2022, 09:44:52 AM Hi
Just to let you all know we now have an offer of a stand which I have accepted. I have some ideas for the stand, but if anyone wants to message me with any ideas they have for what to put on there I would be interested. Here is the proposed floor plan, we are in Hall 5 Stand: 5-250 Hall 5 Width: 11.5m Depth: 5.5m Area: 63.25sqm Peter Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: Nigel on December 20, 2022, 06:01:56 PM I'm available Friday and Saturday Peter.
Set-up day to be confirmed. I attempted that link but Microsoft said I wasn't 'listed'(?) Nigel Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: peteracs on December 20, 2022, 06:54:51 PM Hi Nigel
Good stuff, thanks, have messaged you earlier. Also have modified thread to add pdf instead of link. Peter Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: peteracs on January 07, 2023, 11:50:05 AM Hi
Just trying to get to grips with what to have on the stand and wondered if anyone would be willing to have their car on the stand? I am not looking for a pristine example unlike the November show, but ideally a rolling restoration (or one you are happy to deliver/collect on a trailer.....!). Depending on your view some work could be attempted whilst on the stand as that is something the organisers encourage you to do. Note we will not have power on the stand, so any work would be manual/battery powered tools etc. Thanks Peter Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: peteracs on January 13, 2023, 02:39:44 PM Hi All
This is a last call for anyone willing to have their rolling restoration on the stand? I shall be opening it out to a wider audience if I do not hear back from someone on the forum. Peter Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: HFStuart on January 14, 2023, 01:42:54 PM Peter, did you still want to give mine a go or is that just going to be too complex with me away?
Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: peteracs on January 14, 2023, 01:47:55 PM Hi Stuart
In short I have no way of transporting it, so unless someone else is willing/able to, then will sadly have to pass. This is why I thought having a rolling one would be simpler. Peter Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: HFStuart on January 14, 2023, 04:23:43 PM Yeah the logistics would be a pain. If I were here I'd find a way to get it there but being in Rome is going to make it tough. Oh well there will be other shows, it might even be complete by one of them!
Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: peteracs on January 16, 2023, 11:20:31 AM Hi All
Ok, so cars all sorted for the show (thanks Tim). I am now looking for someone to lend a hand setting up the stand on the Thursday, apparently we have access from 09:00 to 19:00 on the day and I do not expect it to take that long to set it up, so if anyone is happy to give me an hour or two (or more) on the day that would be great. Thanks Peter Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: Neil-yaj396 on January 16, 2023, 01:55:13 PM Peter - I can assist on the Thursday as well as Friday if you need me.
Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: peteracs on January 16, 2023, 02:02:02 PM Hi Neil
Thanks I am sending PM Peter Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: peteracs on January 27, 2023, 01:19:27 PM We now have the discount code for the show, poster below.
Code = MAR23CC836 Hope to see some of you there….. Peter Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: peteracs on March 03, 2023, 10:52:59 AM Hi
Just a quick bump on this show to remind you of the dates and discount code….. Look forward to seeing anyone who is going. Peter Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: SanRemo78 on March 03, 2023, 10:57:14 AM I'm hoping to come down on the Sunday now. Friday was the preferred day but it looks like I have to prepare for Stratos2's collection which means Beta7 can come into the garage on Saturday! I'll probably just buy a ticket on the door, advance purchase might be a waste of cash....
Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: peteracs on March 03, 2023, 11:04:27 AM Hi Guy
I have messaged you. Peter Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: peteracs on March 21, 2023, 10:58:43 PM This is a last reminder that the show is this week Friday through Sunday at the NEC…….
Peter Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: peteracs on March 23, 2023, 07:44:25 PM A not very good pair of photos of the stand before it was finished…..
Hopefully Tony will get chance to do a better job on Sunday Thanks to Tim and Neil for helping out with car and setup Peter Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: smithymc on March 23, 2023, 08:13:23 PM Well done all . Will try to slide over on Sunday afternoon if I can free myself up.
Mark Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: peteracs on March 26, 2023, 11:08:57 PM Hi
Just a quick post to say thanks for all the helped on the stand, Nigel, Tim (help and bringing his car), Tony, Bob and Guy. We had periods of being busy with interested visitors, ranging from those remembering old cars to those interested in buying. We also had a number who were interested in other Lancia models. I would be up for organising it again as it is very much a smaller and less crowded version of the November show, but going forward for me a 4 day stint is not going to be possible, so having at least a couple of folk per day will be necessary. Hopefully Tony will be able to post some decent photos of the stand…!! Peter Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: Neil-yaj396 on March 27, 2023, 08:52:38 AM Well done for sorting this Peter. Looks like it has been a good profile raiser for the Forum and Betas in general. I'd hope to be able to devote more time next year if you decide to do it again.
Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: peteracs on March 27, 2023, 09:11:41 AM Hi Neil
Oops forgot to mention you above….. so thanks for helping on setup day and ferrying me to the hotel and Tim back home. As it happened this was doubly helpful as unknown to me there was a bus strike in Birmingham so getting to the hotel that night would have been challenging. I should also like to thank Mark who loan various parts to display on the stand. Peter Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: SanRemo78 on March 27, 2023, 09:54:28 AM For me it was a great way of putting a few faces to names and wandering around a show that wasn't as crowed as the November one! Great to talk to a few visitors to the stand who had memories of the cars too!
I look forward to meeting a few more at upcoming events! Thanks for organising this one Peter. Guy Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: smithymc on March 27, 2023, 05:26:34 PM Great effort all round.
Well done all involved. Mark Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: Nigel on March 27, 2023, 09:49:06 PM Observations from a display-stand newby:
Not being one adept at idle conversation I found the experience quite fun and interesting. It became clear that if a chat is wanted, they will approach. 'Just looking' was often a no eye contact event, someone to leave alone to just enjoy the sights. There were exceptions to the above, occasionally, of course. I'm willing to do it again. Sorry to have missed meeting the Sunday guys.....next time! Nigel Title: Re: Practical Classics Restoration Show NEC March Post by: TonyLanciaBeta on March 27, 2023, 09:59:02 PM Thanks to Peter for organising the stand, and everyone who helped man the stand, good catching up with everyone, and good to finally meet Guy, been photographing your car for years (good to put a face to a name)
As Peter said, it's a show worth doing again. I could only make Sunday, but here's a couple of my pics of the stand plus the VX Coupe that sold at auction.
