It is normally held on with two nuts, which do rust, so steady with the socket and plenty of easing oil if they are. If the nuts look at all corroded I'd be tempted to cut the nuts off as close to the threads as you can get away with using a Dremel. If you do both sides then the nut will fall off and you can run tap down what's left to clean it up.
