Title: Tyre pressures ? Post by: peteracs on August 18, 2021, 02:25:36 PM Hi All
Given that the new tyres will have different construction to old ones, any suggestions where I start with the new tyres on the car, they are the 175/70R14. The user manual suggests around 25psi, which in today’s world is possibly low, but given the car weighs a lot less than most cars today may be sensible? Peter Title: Re: Tyre pressures ? 25 is too low. I’d go for 30 psi. Chris Title: Re: Tyre pressures ? Post by: squiglyzigly on August 18, 2021, 04:47:40 PM Running my Berlina 185/65/14 @ 32psi f/r Toyo proxies. seems to work wet dry and all surfaces.
VX coupe 195/55/15 @ 32f 30r. I think modern tyres are somewhat different in compound, construction and design to move away from old pressure settings. The tyres will have max recommended pressure at load stated on the sidewall, just stay under that and have a play to see what you prefer is my best advice. Its free to play and every day is a learning day. Ian Title: Re: Tyre pressures ? Post by: peteracs on August 18, 2021, 05:57:50 PM Hi All
Thanks for the suggestions, I will probably start around 30 and see how it all feels. Getting used to the car in first place is going to be a challenge in itself. Peter Title: Re: Tyre pressures ? Post by: Kevo on August 19, 2021, 08:49:13 AM Hi
I robbed this off another forum and find it very useful. Tyre Pressure 4 psi rule. Use the recommended pressure on your tyre placard/manual as a start point, drive for approximately one hour, stop and check the pressure. If it’s gone up by 4psi then your pressures are spot on. This is most unlikely on your first attempt!! So, if they have gone up by more than 4psi, your start pressure was too low. If it has gone up by less than 4psi, then your start pressure was too high. Adjust your pressures by 2psi in the appropriate direction and this will become your starting points for the next cold start. Cheers Kev. Title: Re: Tyre pressures ? Thanks, will give it a go, though driving for an hour in the short term will be a challenge. Also I would imagine the type of driving makes a difference? Peter Title: Re: Tyre pressures ?
