Title: wider timing belt? Post by: rossocorsa on September 12, 2009, 12:42:39 PM certain Renault and Volvo engines use a 148 tooth timing belt with a width of 23mm on the face of it that sounds like a good upgrade for the Beta (19mm) if the tooth pitch is the same, anyone know? and is 23mm ok I know that guy croft does or used to do a 1 inch belt but don't remember if it required any mods? dayco part number is 94600 as opposed to 94064 for the fiat/lancia 2 litre belt. the Renault Volvo belt is used on cars with up to 204hp so should be well up to the job of a beta
Title: Re: wider timing belt? Post by: HFStuart on September 12, 2009, 11:20:43 PM IIRC for the Guy Croft 1" belt you had to fit wider flangeless cam pulleys and fit a flanged auxiliary pulley.
Title: Re: wider timing belt? Post by: rossocorsa on September 12, 2009, 11:51:00 PM I heard conflicting reports I'm sure some folk use the 1 inch belt without mods if this 23mm belt fits it is actually a little bit narrower which may well be just right but I doubt we shall be so lucky somehow!
Title: Re: wider timing belt? Post by: HFStuart on September 13, 2009, 09:43:43 AM I found this on the mans site http://www.guy-croft.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1599&p=9728&hilit=belt (http://www.guy-croft.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1599&p=9728&hilit=belt)
Might help though as ever with Guy it's oriented to those with pretty deep pockets. Title: Re: wider timing belt? Post by: rossocorsa on September 13, 2009, 12:34:34 PM interesting i will study my spare vx engine later easy to look at as it is not in a car
Title: Re: wider timing belt? Post by: rossocorsa on September 13, 2009, 03:39:10 PM well my spare engine has a flanged aux pulley and 29mm flangeless cam pulleys so assuming betas are all the same (ha! ha! Italian car not very likely) a wider belt is a definite possibility
