Title: Rear ‘door card’ on Spider fixing question Post by: peteracs on September 12, 2020, 10:30:54 AM Hi All
On the pre f/l card there are two holes halfway down for the plastic fixings and corresponding holes in the metalwork, also a small bracket at the bottom which attaches to the crossmember. The problem I have is understanding how the top part of the card fixes to the metalwork of the wing. On the card there is a large hole which protrudes and refs a screw in the parts manual. I cannot see why it protrudes and what sort of screw it should use? Also on the door card is a plastic ‘catch’ located centrally at the top of the card which has no corresponding fixture on the metal wing, so what is it’s purpose? Any help will be appreciated! Photo of the reverse top part of my card attached for ref. Peter Title: Re: Rear ‘door card’ on Spider fixing question Post by: Nigel on September 12, 2020, 11:34:42 AM Hi Peter,
If it's of any value, the HPE top fixing is a metal tab on the card that goes into a vertical slot in the bodywork. It has to be slotted from above and 'slides' down to locate. It's a bitch to get it to fit correctly, hence I found both of mine flapping around, not tabbed in. But of course, the Spider may be different. The rears do not have any metal tabs and there is no obvious ‘holes’ in the metalwork either, so it may rely on the rear seat back to hold it in place at the top, maybe...? Problem is it is years since I took them out! Bottom edge held by sill trim, and back edge over wheel arch tucks in behind shelf.
I can try and get images if that helps. Title: Re: Rear ‘door card’ on Spider fixing question Post by: peteracs on September 12, 2020, 05:52:34 PM Hi John
I also have a set of the Spider F/L rears and they are completely different, so sadly would be of no use, hoping Stuart may be along to help me on this one? I know that the top fixing at the B pillar (ie nearest the door) is by a philips screw with a little cup washer. I think the rest is by press fittings. Can you post a pic of the cards? That might remind me - mine are packed away at the moment. Title: Re: Rear ‘door card’ on Spider fixing question Post by: peteracs on September 13, 2020, 08:11:47 PM Hi Stuart
I will do. Peter Title: Re: Rear ‘door card’ on Spider fixing question Post by: peteracs on September 18, 2020, 03:25:46 PM Hi Stuart
Here is a photo of the top of the door card, the screw hole is top right, though currently a large sunken in hole, assume something must fit in it? Peter Title: Re: Rear ‘door card’ on Spider fixing question Post by: HFStuart on September 20, 2020, 07:32:31 PM Peter,
A picture of mine in place - you can see the screw (https://i.imgur.com/D4IIWYN.jpg) That large hole is only used when the cards are fitted to coupes - one of the seatbelt mounts goes through it IIRC Title: Re: Rear ‘door card’ on Spider fixing question Post by: peteracs on September 21, 2020, 11:27:37 PM Hi Stuart
Thanks, that clears up how yours is fitted. I have checked my door card and it does not have the screw in the same position, also the parts book shows the screw in the same position as the ‘bulge’ in the door card, so no further forward. I will have to go back and relook at the holes in the metal. Super condition. Title: Re: Rear ‘door card’ on Spider fixing question Post by: HFStuart on September 22, 2020, 05:38:48 PM A shame it's all in the loft at the moment! But yes it's in good nick internally - some parts of it had to be.
