Title: HPE Tailgate trim
Post by: Nigel on August 09, 2020, 02:06:12 PM
My HPE was built for the Australian market and has a carb engine.
Sometime in its past the tailgate was replaced, but it included the trim for an IE model.
[ALR603Y is etched in the glass]

So, do any of the Aus readers have the correct strip, reading just 2000 [I assume]

Or, has anyone tried removing what I think is etching on aluminium....and how?......[Asked no-one, ever before]

I'm probably being a pedant but, well.............

Nige

Enthusiastic use of T-Cut will remove the IE if it comes to that

Can't you find an original one to swap your I.E. one with ?

Seems a shame to 'alter' this one.

Andrew.

Eric, thanks,i'll try that.

Sandro, I agree, however I believe the only market these were in was Aus. Finding one there
and importing it would be rather excessive.
Unless of course someone tells me that they built series 4 HPE's with Carbs for other
territorys.

Cheers all,
Nige

I remember that I once went to see a last series two liter HPE that turned out to be carburated; I was surprised as well and although it was in near perfect and original condition, I didn't buy it because I absolutely wanted an injected one. Just to say that there clearly were European countries where they offered last series two liter models with a carburator rather than injection  ;)

I understand, I'm sorry that I can't help,

Very interesting that. I essentially bought mine unseen, after seeing the engine pic! My 'holy grail'.
I wonder if our oracle rossocorsa has any info on those 'special' cars?

There was probably some overlap in European cars as they used up the parts? The same happened with the flat bonnets that appeared on early S"FL cars.

I'm no oracle, there's loads I don't know especially about the weird model variations. I'm not sure who is the real expert, maybe Andy Collins?

I found a picture of the car I went to see years ago. It's a digital photo from years ago, so not very sharp, but on the tailgate, you can see that it just says 2000 without I.E.
I wonder what happened to the car by the way...

I also noticed that on the left, it says H.P.Executive (like on my own I.E.), but on Nigel's car, it says HPE  ???

There are quite a few variations with Betas, notice for example, that on VX coupé spoiler it says 'Lancia B' on Italian cars but in the UK where Beta was a bad word it just says 'Lancia' plus a gap where the B would have been

betaveloce, i'm really pleased you found that pic! It's good to see the 2000 on its own.

I've seen examples of 'H.P Executive' before, but i've no idea when or how they applied the name.

Regards and thanks to all!
