Title: Which downpipe for my series 2/FL 2.0 Coupe Post by: capriblu on July 07, 2020, 02:39:48 PM Looking to purchase a downpipe for my early 81 series 2/FL carb 2.0 coupe.
Current item is an old m/s flexi type item and has started to fail at one of the flexi joints. I know that for max life the flexis are meant to be better but to be honest given my modest annual mileage then I'm tempted to save £80 plus and just get solid item. Unfortunately have just had one new/unused Imasaf item go missing in carriage from private ebay seller so looking to other sources. Of the German based traders selling Imasaf items then there appear to be 2 different possible Imasaf solid downpipes for 2.0 carb variants - apart from £30 price difference and part number wondering what the difference is ? This one at £109-00 delivered ....... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/IMASAF-exhaust-downpipe-LANCIA-Beta-2-0-HPE-1980/163713727229?epid=1613776074&_trkparms=ispr%3D1&hash=item261e193afd:g:tfsAAOSwZVpcnK7j&enc=AQAFAAACcBaobrjLl8XobRIiIML1V4Imu%2Fn%2BzU5L90Z278x5ickkfOCvCjTOBWK8pwriaolq5oT2%2FvujJqC2laRkkTOGS91YkWkcC%2BjT6ytRlcE3JwUtTdzGIGPr0moZnPenypMUZPjYcuWNyuVxAiyWr1LDutly4dos7XE%2BxKCLQvGxw6otcOcXdOEwlzVva8SrTjhZHVQSGojC9ZmZfNoeMyy3AwtgyYk9kvn%2BTVVCsHbBFXuBOMlVhkyCSRZ563t%2BG7mVzXfXjaBMWgqGfQwfCGDbdCqPGgBgHxH4iOctcXn7R4bA%2Fs5xrjnNb9dTzGBkPY0%2FCIpGiEwxwUHK0Ds5vHnIo0SQhpPoddO7mGlfGT%2FrEOwb0x%2BWSb2ieZZJJJ1WFFQcGjwYc2Xr6OLKFz72cE77RSsP6oD2D4wiFvvzN%2Fsag9DxfLlAscOEyLgPtwLtf%2BzKpnsBKuej%2FLklpJIh7%2Bob65fOoOkGVWFyDuTDJGpjtzmoM6YZzzsIndHjF88RKfrWqig6OFeA9H6xtOThpRvQSBheqQZIMMrv1aVfvyp0oCOMlZtcEeE5Wjbyv4%2BPHojHWWMqnMVJVdPe00jR5jXfnMXR6A9TmIfJTDtgm70P5MqxMnmSYB%2FjyNPWmfpUQEFIKpEoCxSDvpDazy3ziUnAJLVUA4d2ZkwXH0UqIOA%2Fiehb%2BMsONohuk%2BicaUSdUzAzTu38vF3H2p%2Fzch91lsdgcqSKUex%2FcLhY3UydSOBPRVjqrLsL%2BDChaekc%2Bicug1YVgvMZz%2FscKMCO0bC0zGPkwceaENXeUHwN%2BTB3gtcktCliFILMYJzs8%2BXzDuDmhO3DuQ%3D%3D&checksum=163713727229d9eff57d3e634762b09867a99fde9d3c (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/IMASAF-exhaust-downpipe-LANCIA-Beta-2-0-HPE-1980/163713727229?epid=1613776074&_trkparms=ispr%3D1&hash=item261e193afd:g:tfsAAOSwZVpcnK7j&enc=AQAFAAACcBaobrjLl8XobRIiIML1V4Imu%2Fn%2BzU5L90Z278x5ickkfOCvCjTOBWK8pwriaolq5oT2%2FvujJqC2laRkkTOGS91YkWkcC%2BjT6ytRlcE3JwUtTdzGIGPr0moZnPenypMUZPjYcuWNyuVxAiyWr1LDutly4dos7XE%2BxKCLQvGxw6otcOcXdOEwlzVva8SrTjhZHVQSGojC9ZmZfNoeMyy3AwtgyYk9kvn%2BTVVCsHbBFXuBOMlVhkyCSRZ563t%2BG7mVzXfXjaBMWgqGfQwfCGDbdCqPGgBgHxH4iOctcXn7R4bA%2Fs5xrjnNb9dTzGBkPY0%2FCIpGiEwxwUHK0Ds5vHnIo0SQhpPoddO7mGlfGT%2FrEOwb0x%2BWSb2ieZZJJJ1WFFQcGjwYc2Xr6OLKFz72cE77RSsP6oD2D4wiFvvzN%2Fsag9DxfLlAscOEyLgPtwLtf%2BzKpnsBKuej%2FLklpJIh7%2Bob65fOoOkGVWFyDuTDJGpjtzmoM6YZzzsIndHjF88RKfrWqig6OFeA9H6xtOThpRvQSBheqQZIMMrv1aVfvyp0oCOMlZtcEeE5Wjbyv4%2BPHojHWWMqnMVJVdPe00jR5jXfnMXR6A9TmIfJTDtgm70P5MqxMnmSYB%2FjyNPWmfpUQEFIKpEoCxSDvpDazy3ziUnAJLVUA4d2ZkwXH0UqIOA%2Fiehb%2BMsONohuk%2BicaUSdUzAzTu38vF3H2p%2Fzch91lsdgcqSKUex%2FcLhY3UydSOBPRVjqrLsL%2BDChaekc%2Bicug1YVgvMZz%2FscKMCO0bC0zGPkwceaENXeUHwN%2BTB3gtcktCliFILMYJzs8%2BXzDuDmhO3DuQ%3D%3D&checksum=163713727229d9eff57d3e634762b09867a99fde9d3c) And this one at £139 delivered ........... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/IMASAF-exhaust-downpipe-LANCIA-Beta-2-0-HPE-1979/163621292242?_trkparms=ispr%3D1&hash=item261896c8d2:g:IJcAAOSwvNddO-A3&enc=AQAFAAACcBaobrjLl8XobRIiIML1V4Imu%2Fn%2BzU5L90Z278x5ickkfOCvCjTOBWK8pwriaolq5m19Mh8LryAUJEvbdhRl2zeCNW%2B8pz5YprLP4QaDR8Upcxd%2B0A0%2BymZic7AVHAeFCg8h3pC8oL3kwvWrT8F03XZIbhKrWxLrufDX6C76Kp5GGKiOjpnjFKJB25QGclEZ8VeMtTN5YjpliCBCjGvI1LFPhLvZcoGWHVcIX3VDcO0VHds%2FTW%2F9C8erV0RGFPUHGLC8ge1uFhFe0TbvJ3KR3mTrNMMs5RrdNVE4DceuV1LAMNab6Bu2RlTiJbXAF9L5BGpRycyzYdehW2eylHjstt3QCB%2FDKQO4JS7ASG732h3r8cFl0uURCdsiuh1%2Bbe%2B6QTm9Xa2AMjkyNNwStXoA1K%2BBYsrD9BD0%2BfDmW3Fc7NDAWF3ANLF0bke26KGs%2Bv8YbvMlaAC%2FhCVdJKD3wpimepi0OTwgplOm7fgeC956RKU%2FpPqIzjJ1Rv9BQbYbcuUc2anJf7dAM2VXlPV%2BNIGHnWCGyv8GtLy6UCkjlKbsJjCMC5vRYmVjE8b%2B%2BGQbGijVka103SrlCPqC5c1X8Inl0hkOvw0LZkXr3STiaScGPG8EGNhuT3X7isJeiauiCYVctxseG7VqgGNeLwNSM3L9gotWM6Hp7hL4viQu0aQwgF9HAbobFwinmE%2Bgw3qAxR6jdkIBRPnfrpJ%2BwszUvmBmaADRdVjGFvqhHNm25%2FpgYze1kWnOZAdZ%2BOjZf%2FZKDK8nq0%2BDf7j%2Bu%2B0nJNyPmIKeqfpneHMXbZhe8m6FSh4K%2FT87v0FycXOSemvyoJef8Z6p7Q%3D%3D&checksum=163621292242d9eff57d3e634762b09867a99fde9d3c (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/IMASAF-exhaust-downpipe-LANCIA-Beta-2-0-HPE-1979/163621292242?_trkparms=ispr%3D1&hash=item261896c8d2:g:IJcAAOSwvNddO-A3&enc=AQAFAAACcBaobrjLl8XobRIiIML1V4Imu%2Fn%2BzU5L90Z278x5ickkfOCvCjTOBWK8pwriaolq5m19Mh8LryAUJEvbdhRl2zeCNW%2B8pz5YprLP4QaDR8Upcxd%2B0A0%2BymZic7AVHAeFCg8h3pC8oL3kwvWrT8F03XZIbhKrWxLrufDX6C76Kp5GGKiOjpnjFKJB25QGclEZ8VeMtTN5YjpliCBCjGvI1LFPhLvZcoGWHVcIX3VDcO0VHds%2FTW%2F9C8erV0RGFPUHGLC8ge1uFhFe0TbvJ3KR3mTrNMMs5RrdNVE4DceuV1LAMNab6Bu2RlTiJbXAF9L5BGpRycyzYdehW2eylHjstt3QCB%2FDKQO4JS7ASG732h3r8cFl0uURCdsiuh1%2Bbe%2B6QTm9Xa2AMjkyNNwStXoA1K%2BBYsrD9BD0%2BfDmW3Fc7NDAWF3ANLF0bke26KGs%2Bv8YbvMlaAC%2FhCVdJKD3wpimepi0OTwgplOm7fgeC956RKU%2FpPqIzjJ1Rv9BQbYbcuUc2anJf7dAM2VXlPV%2BNIGHnWCGyv8GtLy6UCkjlKbsJjCMC5vRYmVjE8b%2B%2BGQbGijVka103SrlCPqC5c1X8Inl0hkOvw0LZkXr3STiaScGPG8EGNhuT3X7isJeiauiCYVctxseG7VqgGNeLwNSM3L9gotWM6Hp7hL4viQu0aQwgF9HAbobFwinmE%2Bgw3qAxR6jdkIBRPnfrpJ%2BwszUvmBmaADRdVjGFvqhHNm25%2FpgYze1kWnOZAdZ%2BOjZf%2FZKDK8nq0%2BDf7j%2Bu%2B0nJNyPmIKeqfpneHMXbZhe8m6FSh4K%2FT87v0FycXOSemvyoJef8Z6p7Q%3D%3D&checksum=163621292242d9eff57d3e634762b09867a99fde9d3c) Any pointers / advice? (Did have a look at Mark's listings but couldn't see anything for a 2.0 other than a make to order stainless item - I need something pdq ...) Thanks, Andrew Title: Re: Which downpipe for my series 2/FL 2.0 Coupe Post by: Nigel on July 07, 2020, 06:21:02 PM Hi!
The HPE wheelbase is longer than the Coupe,so a part of the exhaust IS different, however I can't recall where they added the length. I think it was in the centre section, but this would need confirming. My choice,to be safe, would the be listed Coupe item. Thanks Nigel, Its only the middle and back boxes that are different (length) between coupe/spider & saloon/hpe cars. The downpipe sections are the same for all body variants but differ based on engine, i.e. 2.0 (longer stroke) different to 1.6.The HPE wheelbase is longer than the Coupe,so a part of the exhaust IS different, however I can't recall where they added the length. Regards Nigel Both the items in links above suggest compatibility for 2.0 carb coupe cars. Just not sure what difference is (other than £40)???? Title: Re: Which downpipe for my series 2/FL 2.0 Coupe Post by: capriblu on July 07, 2020, 09:09:04 PM I would suspect that the up to 79 version is rigid and that the post 79 one has flexi section Both these are rigid. The flexi ones are nearer £200 new. Title: Re: Which downpipe for my series 2/FL 2.0 Coupe Post by: squiglyzigly on July 07, 2020, 10:14:47 PM Never had much luck with the rigid ones. Constantly blowing the gasket to the manifold, cracking the manifold and banging on the floor pan under deceleration. Obviously there are other factors such as engine mount and damper condition but flexi pipes always seemed friendlier.
Maybe I was unlucky. Ian Title: Re: Which downpipe for my series 2/FL 2.0 Coupe Post by: peteracs on July 07, 2020, 11:24:03 PM Hi
Given the cost of a stainless flexi, I would buy a solid down pipe and then chop it and fit a flexi with clamps. They are around £10. If you are happy with a used down pipe the one I have may be from a 2l if you are interested. I would get one welded in if you can't actually weld it yourself.

The solid pipes immediately before and after the current perished flexis on my old downpipe seem rather weathered and barely round in places so I think I'll just go for a new solid downpipe and insert two new insertable/clampable stainless flexis as you suggest - may even make it repairable in the future. |
