Title: Replacing a Fuel Tank. Post by: Sandro on August 12, 2019, 09:21:03 PM Hi,
I'm planning to replace the fuel tank on my 1984 injected HPE with another. How easy is this to do yourself ? I've found bits and pieces on the Forum about removal and rust treatments etc. but would love to get an overview from someone who's carried the job out on their car ( preferably an HPE ). That way I can assess if it's beyond me or not. Many thanks for any help, A. Title: Re: Replacing a Fuel Tank. Post by: peteracs on August 12, 2019, 11:05:53 PM Hi
Only done it on a carb Spyder, but suspect very similar and is pretty straight forward to do. Disconnect all the pipes, some from in the boot (not sure how they are accessed on HPE) and some underneath, then undo the retaining nuts underneath and it should drop down behind the rear crossmember. Post by: rossocorsa on August 13, 2019, 08:01:50 AM Easy enough to take out, the difficult bit is cleaning and prepping the replacement must be thorough as quite a few people have had issues. Also make sure you have the right tank in theory you can't use a carb tank in an injection for instance

The replacement tank shouldn't have any issues, it's been cleaned but I've decided not to have it relined, ..a suggestion from the boys at Day & Whites was to keep it 'as is' ..but once in keep it 'full as possible' to prevent any moisture developing in the tank, and it should be fine. I'll make sure I soak those 4 retention bolts well before removing, it won't be happening anytime soon, I need to get hold it and the other parts I'll replace while I'm doing it, pump filters etc. As far as the hoses go do you simply order a roll and 'cut to size' as you go ? and does anyone know the specifications ( size/s ) for these ? Thanks again A. |
