I am trying to take apart the engine gearbox that I lifted from a 2l HPE ('79) that I have just scrapped. Trying to get the centre driveshaft and diff off so's I can get the gearbox and start work on that. Only the driveshaft is proving tricky. I have undone the 3 nuts holding the driveshaft bearing mounting plate onto the block - and the 4 bolts attaching the square plate on the left end to the diff. But try as I might, I can't get the bearing mounting plate off the studs and can't get the splines of the centre driveshaft apart on the left side. Am I missing something here? sam -------------------------------------------------------- I have found its best to take the gearbox off the engine block first. Just remember to remove the little cover plate by the sump, (it covers the flywheel.) which is bolted to the g'box. Mark -------------------------------------------------------- Hello, Try Harder! The bearing is a tight fit but will pull through if you tap the edge of the drive shaft joint flange a few times (rotating it as you do). The support bracket has "dowel pin" locators so you need to prise it away from the block - however it is unlikely that you will get enough sideways movement to release the shaft from the transmission (It simply pulls out, only held by the rubber seal). As Mark stated, most people pull the transmission off first, leaving the cross transfer shaft still on the block ------------------------------------------------------------ |
