How did all this work out (disks and red dot pads). I presume you are using steel braided lines? Do you have any suggestions for me in terms of improving the brakes on my Beta. Thanks for your time in advance. Shane
Title: Re: Brake Pad recommendation Post by: 75coupe on August 13, 2009, 11:21:37 AM I have goodridge steel braided lines, and in conjunction with a properly adjusted linkage gives a very solid pedal, removing a lot of the sponginess & pedal travel.
My past experience with pads is that the genuine DBA/bendix are the best for std road use, beware of non genuine pads, some are awful, with poor stopping power, bad fade and wearing out after only a few thousand miles. I'd be interested in any comments on uprated pads people have tried. I hillclimb my car and have never had a problem with the std set up, but I am not continually driving round a track lap after lap, although this is on the cards for next year..... Title: Re: Brake Pad recommendation Post by: lanciamad on August 13, 2009, 07:11:38 PM I also have the goodridge braided lines, and can recommend them. Pedal feeling seems very solid, and i know i didn't do a brilliant job of bleeding the system last time it was done; i replaced all my cooper lines at the same time due to most of the unions corroded when i tried fitting the braided lines.
For fluid i'm using a high boiling dot 4 which is compatible and equivalent to dot 5.1, very good stuff. Has never boiled; a friends 205 using the same fluid runs it and he's had the same stuff in his car for two years now doing 5 track days as well as regularly using it as a road car. The update on the pads is, it looks like i won't be getting the red dot pads, not that i was expecting any different :D There was a 3-4 week order time and the company i bought them from has said red dot didn't send your order to them and the factory is now closed for the next 5 weeks, however they have offered an alternative pad if they find such a thing, or i'll receive a refund, i know what my moneys on :D So pad wise, it looks like i will be using new standard pads (I think bendix) with my new discs. From my experience, the pads do fade towards the middle to end part of the day if doing a whole days tracking; and before each event i rough the surface of the pad and disc up. With the new discs grooves this should hopefully minimise the fading a little. Removing the calipers, cleaning the sliders and plenty of copper greasing does wonders for my brakes. I have reconditioned calipers approx 1 and a half years old and it amazes me how quickly they can start the seizing effect, mainly due to lack of use. So there all taken off and cleaned while i rough the pads up ;) Title: Re: Brake Pad recommendation Post by: lanciamad on August 21, 2009, 06:04:31 PM Just an update.................
The company i bought the red dot pads from have managed to source some Tarox brake pads as replacement, these being of a higher quality and also more expensive, well so they say; due to them messing me around they only charged me for the price of the red dots. Well this is what i had previously, standard discs and standard front pads which have been in there since i bought the car. (http://i135.photobucket.com/albums/q152/lanciamad_album/Photo0121.jpg) This is what i now have, drilled / grooved discs and Tarox pads.
