Title: Window trim Post by: jreacock on June 17, 2017, 03:53:07 PM Just getting round to finishing the last few bits now, and wonder whether anyone has had to re-glue the metal-backed seal strip that seals against the door glass as it slides up and down? Specifically, it's the seal on the outer side that goes horizontally along the glass as it disappears inside the door. Both sides of mine have come out, and it looks like there was some kind of contact adhesive on them (looks a bit orange-coloured). I'm wondering about silicone adhesive / sealant because of the slight curve and uneven nature of it all. Any thoughts?
Thanks. Title: Re: Window trim Post by: peteracs on June 17, 2017, 04:23:01 PM Hi
Not sure if yours is an even later one, but on the ones I have seen from f/l cars, the metal strip which has the rubber is spot welded to the strip that attaches to the door, maybe as these fail then previous owner has glued it? Title: Re: Window trim Post by: jreacock on June 19, 2017, 01:19:03 PM Hi. Yes - it does seem to have some adhesive on the metal part that would attach to the door - but then - I did have a load of bodywork done in the late 90's, so I'm wondering whether I had door skins, and the body shop did it without saying anything. Think I had door skins - from Scorpion reproductions when they were going.
I see there's some windscreen seal on the Frost site - but it looks very similar to something I use at work, which is a very good flexible sealant / adhesive, so I might give that a try first. Thanks to all for advice. Hi I used tiger seal for my offside door, which seems to have worked well. |
